Why does my gamertag have suffix even thou no one else has the same name of mine

If it's got a suffix then the tag is in use somewhere on the servers. You would also get the suffix if you used special characters. The only way to remove a suffix is to choose another gamertag.

You have to choose a name no one else has and that doesn't have any special characters.

Your friend may have made his gamertag prior to the gamertag policy changing so he would have been the only one with that gamertag at that time which is why he doesn't have a suffix.

As for exactly why its displaying different I am not sure I could assume it has to display when you are in party or chat to make the distinction between you and someone else with the same name but different Suffix.
