    Why does my external hard drive crash all peripherals?


    I have a 500gb seagate SSD to store previous gen games on & whenever it is plugged and being read from it has a chance to disconnect my headset, controller & SSD from the console all at once causing my game to close and taking up to 20 seconds to reconnect everything. Is there anyway to stop this issue besides completely disconnecting the ssd when not using it? I'm having trouble finding a place to open a ticket with support as well so this is the only place I thought to ask.

    some usb powered hdd enclosures are cheap and nasty and can call for more power from the usb bus, which all the other stuff runs from too, if it tries taking to much power then other things will disconnect.

    Do you have Kinect or an external hard drive plugged in? Have you unplugged all peripherals and tried a hard reset?

    Xbox One S Keep crashing after few minutes of use since October update....

    I would do the following: -

    1. Disconnect all optional peripherals (Kinect, external hard drive etc.) and try using the console with a game or two on the internal hard drive.

    2. If option 1 makes no difference, do a factory reset of the console. If all of your games are on an external hard drive, disconnect it and then reset the console choosing the option to keep nothing. If your games are on the internal, choose to keep your
    games and apps.

    It's not possible to roll back to an earlier dashboard and while MS have released 2 bug fix updates to insiders since the latest update went public, those updates address specific minor issues such as certain notifications not popping, or "My games & apps"
    crashing if you do certain things. As your console is taking an age to boot up and is constantly crashing every 5 mins no matter what you do, clearly something more serious is amiss.
