Why does MS update brick my XBox One?

Ever since I started my console a few days ago and saw an auto-update installing, the screen is black on startup. I can still pull up the shut off/restart console menu using the controller, but the background remains black. I’ve looked and it seems like MS has been getting a lot of similar complaints and they even have an active status thing about black screens after update. I followed the support article to factory reset my console (supposedly the only option), but that didn’t even work. I held the pairing and eject buttons, then hit the power button while continuing to hold the other two for 10-15 seconds. I’m pissed. Anyone else having a similar issue?

I had the same problem tonight but managed to fix it after a google search. You can fix the problem with a PC and a flash drive. The info is on support.xbox. Here's a link https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/console/reset-console-to-factory-defaults

This doesn't work. All of this began after downloading updates. So Microsoft's own updates brick my Xbox One and then tell me I have to pay to get it repaired. This is why MS will never have trust from regular people and gamers.

My power brick does it.

My friends power brick has started doing it too.

As my console is in my bedroom I don't use instant on because of the noise. When the room is silent the fan can be annoying.

I don't think it can be fixed by a dashboard update as i'm not sure if the console could actually control the fan in the power brick.

If you bought your console from a proper store not an online one and it's still under warranty you could try getting your console exchanged for a new one and hope the power brick is quieter on that one.

Sending the power brick off to MS though just seems a lot of hassle which is why I use energy saving mode instead of getting it fixed.

Yea my Xbox does not work at all anymore. Newest update bricked it.

actually I do believe I have the answer to that question. considering that the ENTIRE xbox will have to be updated, including the Kinect or neither of them will work., I would advise leaving the Kinect plugged in until AFTER the entire update has completed
itself. not doing this will probably mean that if the Kinect does not get updated at the same time as the xbox itself then it will not communicate with the updated OS very well either.

thus potentially bricking your xbox one. which is probably why some people on these forums are *** about bricked xbox ones. because they didn't do the update right
