Why does Microsoft keep removing the ability to uninstall unwanted applications like XBox,...

I use windows professionally, and paid for a professional license.

Why, then, does Microsoft make it such a pain to remove distracting or otherwise workplace-inappropriate apps from my workstation?

What, seriously, could the justification be for me to have to fight and have to use PowerShell to remove a gaming app?

Also - why does someone wanting to play the Windows Edition of Minecraft also mean that they have to have the game bar installed? I know it's necessary for voice chat, but say I'm deaf or merely antisocial...

As Microsoft circles the wagons and tries to limit my options, it only convinces me to explore elsewhere. I installed the beta XBox app. I can't uninstall it now and I refuse to install the game bar just to make it work.

This isn't how you treat users. This is how you treat cattle.

    :)

Why does Microsoft keep removing the ability to uninstall unwanted applications like XBox, the Game Bar, etc.?

They are bundled subsystems that are not a critical part of windows.

They're not even a critical part of Minecraft. There's no part of Minecraft that
has to have voice chat to function. I already had to use a powershell script to take out the game bar after the umpteenth time it got in the way while I was playing games that had nothing to do with Xbox. I'm not interested in streaming and the app
doesn't respect it's own settings when you tell it to go away and stay gone.

Yes, I get that I can remove them from the start menu. They're still installed and often still running.
The fact that they have uninstall buttons in the "apps" part of settings - that are greyed out - is not an irony that's lost on me.

I know it's a package of things. It's an unnecessarily bundled package of things. If it's a "take it all or leave it" scenario - I'm leaving.

Apps that I still have that I didn't want and can't uninstall without scripting because they're uninstall buttons are greyed out:

    Alarms & Clock

    App Installer

    Camera

    Get Help (pfft. sure.)

    Maps

    Messaging

Microsoft Edge (Didn't learn anything from the IE in Windows 95 lawsuit?)

    Microsoft Photos

    People

    Webp Image Extensions

Xbox and, perhaps most frustratingly of all:

    Your Phone

There are others I have already removed via powershell. What these all have in common is that either they are completely unnecessary, don't work well
or I already had other apps that already performed these functions but
    better
    .

Having removed all of these from another instance of windows using powershell scripts, I can tell you that not a single one of them is necessary for windows to run and run quite well at that. It's only when I run across the occasional microsoft
program that insists that it's bundled partner be installed that I have any trouble and, quite frankly, it's convinced me to move on to something else and just run a copy of 7 sandboxed and virtualized when I need a windows environment for something.

This has to end. If the OS was free, I could see doing this to customers. I paid for a license and it's
my computer and I'm tired of this treatment. What goes on my hard disk, what goes in my command queue, is
    my choice.

They are subsystems that are part of windows. You can just remove them from the start menu no issue. This is also why you need the game bar installed to run minecraft, its a package of things

Sorry if I was misleading... my post only concerned the Xbox apps... I haven't checked every other app you listed, but the ones I have checked can't be uninstalled.

Are you telling me you have working uninstall buttons for all the other apps I mentioned? I was able to uninstall Xbox Beta, but the other apps you mention aren't ones I remember seeing installed by default.

This behaviour is endemic to every Win10 install I have encountered thus far, on the four machines at home and the three at work.

If it's borked permissions, it seems right easy to reproduce this behaviour accidentally and without mucking around much or at all in a fresh install that's been updated to 1909.
