    Why does Microsoft charge $299 to repair an Xbox for a known issue?


    Our Xbox Series X turns off after being on for less than 10 seconds. We went through all of the troubleshooting steps (both online and through tech support) and the only option was for us to send it in for repair at the cost of $299. I understand the device is out of warranty, but a search on the internet shows that this is a widespread issue.

    I'm a loyal Xbox customer - have owned every platform since the original XBox. Unfortunately this puts a very bad taste in my mouth. Hardware that's kept on a shelf and doesn't move shouldn't fail... and if there's a design issue that Microsoft is clearly aware of, it shouldn't be charging customers $299 to repair it. Just doesn't seem right.

    If you've had the console longer than a year then the warranty is up and Xbox will charge for the repair. If you don't want to pay for a repair you could get a new one. Look for deals, I don't know where you live but here in Canada there is a deal on right
    now for the 250 gb slim with 5 games for $299.

    you did not post where you are. Microsoft announce a price drop to $299 on Xbox One X consoles and I checked near where I live and stores can have an order in within 3 days. Amazon does not have all the Xbox One X consoles at $299 as of yet just the star
    wars bundle.

    Sorry for you issues, a console is hardware and eventually hardware gives up the ghost so to speak. Good luck on getting a replacement.

    Terrible. All of a sudden my Xbox will not display on my TV. Either through hdmi or component. Shows 'no signal'. Was working just fine a few days ago. Tried everything. Also called 800 #, tried everything. Now Microsoft wants to charge me for repairs? Crazy!
    Misses Joust. Why send it, why charge me $99 when we all know its a software issue? Why make money on a problem Microsoft can solve?
