Why do you think it took so long for updates to arrive?

We've had 4 updates (including the day 1 patch) since novemeber 22nd (just over 3 months) How much faster do you want them to come?

 

Personally, I think the timing is okay. I don't think for one moment that people were sat in the office just looking at it and not getting any work done and I believe that these updates have come out as soon as they were possible to release. Maybe I am wrong
but that's just my belief.

 

I agree cloud. Microsoft really seem to be putting in the effort to get this console working flawlessly.

 

This argument will never end....

You have two groups of people....first group believes the One should have released with all the features we had on the 360 and updates should have added new next gen content.

Second group believes that the One is allowed to take a step backwards before it moves forward because it's next gen. The 360 wasn't created in a day so they don't expect the One to be.

It's all about perspective

 

I never seen it as taking a step backwards. I seen it as trying new ways of doing things. Some of those things didn't work so well so now they are changing them. Not fixing them. Like you said Randver, all a matter of perspective.

My step backwards comment was in reference to things like the lack of battery power meter, storage, etc. things that really can't be improved. Handling of friends, messages, achievements is where they are trying new things that may or may not be liked by
the community but you'll never make everyone happy.

 

I thought they rolled out the updates really promptly, myself. It was great to see the February update, followed immediately by the March update.

 

People are too restless. First of all there is a process from start to finish. It takes time.

First they need to figure out what people want the most, that means listening, reading and researching and choosing what can be done on one patch. This doesn't take a day to do.

Then after compiling a list based on all this, they need to shorten that list into something that can fit a timeframe they set. You can't fit all in at once, otherwise we would have an update every 6+ months.

After the list is done, they need to set a plan for how to develop or improve this. Assign teams and people. Let those teams and people work, and finally get to the point where they do inhouse testing. Fix the bugs that showed up and repeat until everything
seems stable.

Then let a beta for an x amount of players, YOU, test this also to see if bugs and other problems arise that wasn't showing up inhouse. Then fix those that get's reported by you, or tracked via software on their end.

When all this is done, and everything seems stable and working, the patch get's released.

It's a hell of alot of work for even small things, more than people realize.

Now, you could argue that alot of the options and fixes coming is something that should have come with the system, and i won't argue there.

But just know, that it is alot of work, no matter how big a company.

And there is constantly things to improve, fix, find out new cool stuff etc, so this is a process of people and teams that constantly are working to ensure things get done. Don't believe for a second the people are off doing a vacation for one patch well
done, it's finish one thing, and start on another right away.

This isn't just the Xbox team, but all developers. Sony's PS4, game developers.. think Battlefield 4..do you thing they got to see alot of their friends, wives and kids when the trouble hit the fan?

We can complain and complain, but i have respect for the people who are working their *** off getting us updates, fixes etc.

Don't fool yourselves into thinking they don't care if a game, hardware etc isn't working like it should.

They get flamed and blamed by everybody.

Gotta love how someone comes here to complains and when they get ripped a new one, they never return to the thread. If you can't stand behind what you are saying, then don't post in the first place.

 

My brother had an update today but I've not and because of this we now can't invite to party chat or invite to games so can't play together totally *** us over

 

scott1773: It's a rolling update, meaning we don't all get it at once.

Now the update, if ready for you, could be waiting a power off from your system.

Try turning it off then back on again.

When people earlier got disconnected when the patch came, people got angry.

When the patch waits until the user isn't using the console at the moment, people get angry.

pfffffft. what is this "update" you are talking about? I still haven't gotten one yet today. how come MS is taking so long to roll them out today?

Fact of the matter is, if you put Sony, MS, and game devs under truth serum, they would all admit that they were not ready for next gen. All of them easily could have used another 3 months of development. But it was the classic case of we must release
for Xmas.... which is baloney.

Why did the update take so long? its been 3 months since launch..... it hasn't been that long.
