Why do Xbox Live Gold members get adverts on the dashboard?

Same reason you get commercials with a cable subscription......

Your paying for a service, The available content providers still needs to make money too....

Here's the difference though. Microsoft is the content provider meaning just like HBO and Showtime, all advertising on their premium service should only be Xbox specific.

They have spent billions on their advertising platform which is billions that could have been better spent on game development. But apparently selling eyeballs to other companies is far more important. Pretty sad that since this as platform was introduced
a few years ago,, my Xbox 360 performs like a.virus ridden PC in serious need of adware removal.

 

Is there many advertisements on the Xbox One dashboard other than gaming related stuff?

Auswulf, there are advertisements for things other than games, but not many - usually like 1 or 2 and they're always in the Xbox Store.

Most of the stuff I see is actually for stuff you can buy on the Xbox, so I don't really see it as bad advertising or anything. I can see the likes of those adverts for nike, or cars or something, but they always offer some kind of free avatar item or something.

 

I would like to see some more in game advertisements. But what would be really good is if they were to set up a system to have you watch one before you start playing your games (kind of like how you do when you watch a youtube
video). That $60 membership may possibly be able to lower if there were more advertisements in more places, unfortunately there are too many protestors for this to happen.

 

^^ What about people who rent the game? Buy it used? Wait until it's discounted?

I hate to be "that guy", but if you're struggling financially and a $60 hit on your wallet is that drastic, you shouldn't be buying strictly entertainment items. (This was not directed at you, Newb 720)

 

Its not about the money its about people being greedy and not PROVIDING the whole game Eggnogga. I agree with OP with its 2 many advertisments. Now lets say they were only for xbox like e3 streaming, games then it would be fine. Plus 60 dollars is way to
much for a 1/2 of a game.
