Why do u have to pay for Xbox live/gold?

Ok I think that xbox live should be free because it' not fair that my friends have it and it' not fair thato I'm the odd one out its unfair when I see my friends playing a game then knowing I can't play.

I mean like really I already have to pay money for the xbox itself. And the games with it. And dont get about about wifi I have to pay for that too.So like why?

There are quite a few perks like free games every month, discounts on games, money invested in the infrastructure ... the better question is why not pay for it?

Well, Xbox needs to pay for the servers they keep and use to have Xbox Live running. Servers cost a lot of money to keep and maintain as well as the staff needed and other resources. This is why we have to pay to use Xbox Live, and to access multiplayer
content. Without this, Microsoft/Xbox won't have enough money and this will result in a poor service or no Xbox Live for anyone around the world

It does suck that we have to pay especially since our PC counterparts don't have too and also you do not need to pay on PS4 to play free to play games online like Fortnite.
