Why do the Xbox One microphone headsets refuse to work?

Seriously, WTF? I've had my Xbox One since mid December, and I have NEVER been able to plug the mic into the controller and have it just work like it should. Its absolutely ridiculous. Every time I wanna talk to a friend I find myself on google trying to
troubleshoot why this mic won't work. At first I thought that it was just a faulty mic, so I bought another one, same thing. Then a friend buys an Xbox One and guess what? He's having the same exact issues that I'm having! Plugging the mic in, only to find
that nobody can hear you but you can hear them (thats only if you're lucky), then going through all of the BS of hard restarting this thing and it still doesnt work. I even bought a new controller, thinking that might solve my problem. It did not. My friends
and I have finally come to the conclusion that the mics/controlers are not faulty, they're just really, REALLY poorly designed. Its a shame that the mic thats built into the kinect sensor is such a joke, I'd be willing to use it if it didnt pick up background
audio from 30 feet away. Its unbelieveably frusterating to pay over $600 for something, only to find that one of the most basic features of the console just doesnt work, and hasent worked, for the better part of a year now. I've tried every "fix" that I can
find for this issue, none of which work with any kind of consistency. Its getting to the point where my friends and I are playing together less and less because of this issue. Its easier to play alone then it is to get everyones mics working at the same time,
and it is absolutely unacceptable from a company that advertises its home console as the being best way to play and connect with friends.

Microsoft Xbox One Chat Headset Microphone Stops Working

Hello,

This summer we have had 3 Microsoft Xbox One chat headset microphones stop working and 1 Microsoft Xbox One Stereo headset microphone stop working.

I have tried multiple Xbox One controllers and separate Xbox One console to verify the microphone no longer works.

Is there some known issue of how these headsets need to be plugged in or unplugged from the controller that could be zapping the microphone? Do we have to have the controller turned on or off before inserting the plug into the controller?

This just seems ridiculous that we keep loosing the microphone capability of these headsets.

Is the microphone for this headset in-line (on the actual headset cable)? I know for other headsets this means the microphone won't work for the Xbox One.

 

Ive had no problem from my mic and neither have my friends. Have you updated your controller?

 

Have you updated the controller with the mic in yet? I would have this problem occasionally when I powered up the console with the controller away from the Kinect (Kinect and console are not close to each other.); the solution is to point the controller
towards the Kinect, hit the home button, sign-in, then choose this person. If your already signed in just "choose this person" again. It has never failed.

I have this problem all the time myself. Try starting up a party by yourself and make sure that you're putting out audio before attempting to join a party with other people.

so... I call shenanigans.

The mic adapter also came with a cable to facilitate update of the controller to support the adapter.

 

^I'm pretty sure he's talking about the standard headset that comes with every Xbox One

 

I'm sure there is at least 3 or 4 people who still use one.

 

The standard headset that came with my Xbox One works but it's absolute crap. It feels cheap, sounds terrible, and is uncomfortable to wear. Hopefully when I get the adapter my Turtle Beach DX12s will work well enough.

 

I'm borrowing my brother's X12's while my Microsoft is servicing my Xbox One Stereo Headset. Other than the absurd process you need to go through to connect the things, they work pretty well. I'll be happy when I get mine back though so I can be rid of all
these wires. Hopefully tomorrow.

 

I got the turtle beach that are 160 USD I think there the XO7s. Work great.

 

@Sword StyIe - Which Xbox One Stereo Headset? How does it sound? I like my TB DX12s with the surround sound processor but I hate wires...

 

It's the official Xbox One Stereo Headset from Microsoft. They sound great. Better than the X12's in my opinion. They're also really
comfortable. Plus you just plug in to the adapter on your controller and use it the same way you would a regular chat headset. Also, you can plug them in to your Ipod if you want to listen to music, or you could plug them in to your phone and take all your
calls through the headset.

 

Are they surround sound? My DX12s are simulated surround sound and it works really well.
