Why do I pay for a subscription?

Today is January 6, 2015. Yet again xbox live is experiencing outacges here in western Canada. in 30 days I count at least 5 that I have had outages! Do I receive a rebate for this? Your service should be free because you obviously are not spending that
money on a more secure infrastructure or hiring more PROFESSIONALS to stop this from happening.

Why do I pay a sub fee for Gold?

You are paying for the people who enforce the rules when people decide to cheat or try to ruin other people's online experience. Also with the Xbox One there are over 300k servers now on XBL for games to take advantage of. Not to mention space in the cloud
for profiles and other things to be synced to. Not only that, but MS has added games with gold, so now you actually get free games that you OWN and not rent. So when/if they day comes that you no longer want XBL you can continue to play your game(s).

Some argue that its not enough for MS to charge for XBL but that is entirely subjective. You have to make the decision if its worth it or not.

These outages could be caused by things outside Microsofts control. I'm in western Canada have not experienced any outages.

You will probably want to contact Xbox Support (choose phone or chat) and discuss what those charges are about.

Customer support agents (with access to account records and reference numbers) do not use the forums.

I'm beginning to wonder why I pay for 2 xbox live subscriptions if the service is going down all the time due to DOS attacks. I will not be renewing.
