Why do I have a mute icon stuck on my xbox and cant get any audio?

I am getting no audio, have done a factory reset, have used 3 different headsets, two different controllers, and i still have a mute icon next to the battery on the home screen. I can have no controllers plugged in and still have the mute icon.

I contacted microsoft support 3 times but they keep saying my audio adapter is out of warranty. But everything works and they made it. My adapter mute logo icon is even lit up so I know that it has power. I can play games, just no audio.

This seems to be planned obsolescence. I got hit by an update and now they are telling me I need to buy a new adapter. But I know that wont fix it and then I will be out 64 bucks. PLEASE HELP!

HOW DO I FIX THE MUTE ICON/ NO AUDIO GLITCH?

Edit: Also, I just checked and my audio adapter is the same model that microsoft sells on amazon.

I am not where I can check that currently but I do believe that icon is there when I don't have it plugged in.

Not sure how you know the new adapter won't fix the problem. It seems out of everything that you have tried the adapter is the only constant other than the console. You could try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the
console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.

Just out of curiosity, have you run the updates on the controllers while having them plugged into the Xbox?

I talked to microsoft. Seems like either all my controllers died at the same time or I need a new adapter. Once I get a second adapter to test with things will be clearer.

Yeah I unplugged and cleaned out the power brick with some condensed air early on. All pinning in the adapter is solid, it still have power (lights up). I do not feel a new one will make a difference because I have that icon when I don't even have a controller
plugged in. Do you have a mute icon when you dont have a controller plugged in?
