Why did they waste so many resources with backwards compatability

As I understand, it wont be like the 360 backward compatibility. Instead of modifying each game they have one emulator that will work with all games (as long as they don't Use external devices). They just have to get the publishers permission and flip a
switch.

They did that with the Xbox 360 and how many us actually play our original xbox titles..there are so many Xbox 360 consoles already in the market including two in my house, why would I want MS to waste productivity and consume their resources on backwards
technology instead of bring us more updated features and useful applications with the Xbox One as it's own unit. I think it's just not that big of a deal to keep two consoles sine they both have their strong points.

The old one was actually backwards compatible, it had an emulator that was updated with loads of old games for almost a year, even multi-player AND the old games looked better on the 360.

Clearly they wasted a lot of money doing this, can't see it happening again as overall migration to the new gen was very quick so why waste resources... The always on compulsory connectivity thing is absolute non-sense and WILL NOT happen, why would a company
say hey you don't have internet so I'm not going to sell you my product? That's not business. Although the locking of a game to a single Xbox will probably happen, to stop the trade in market.

You know... we could go with the long, detailed, answer as to why there's no backwards compatibility, but that would be a gigantic waste of time

It's mostly up to the developers. So it's probably something like if it's worth it to them to use their time and resources to make it backwards compatible.
