  1. Why did my Xbox One X hijack itself because I moved to a place with limited internet?

I have always had unlimited Internet, until July, when I moved to a place with NO Internet. So, to get Internet, I have to "tether" my phone. Works better than I thought, right up until I reach my phone service data usage "throttle" point. I can still communicate.
I can still message. It still lets me spend money at the Microsoft online store. Yet, I can't download.

Yes, it's slow ... tested at about 36kbps. Don't want to do any online gaming at that speed, but I should still be able to get my updates through. I can't. It acts like it's doing it, but it's being really stupid about it. It downloads a few meg, then stops,
saying the download failed, even though I'm still connected. When I restart the download, data is actually flowing, (my phones data usage is going up), but it never advances past the point it got the failure. It fails again. All that data, but not a byte
more towards completing the download. That's what I meant when I said, "... being really stupid about it." It seems to re-download what it already downloaded, or at least re-downloads the same bytes to verify that what it downloaded before was correct, instead
of just taking off where it left off, like a normal file transfer on almost any given system in the world. Thus I can't get anywhere. All my phone data allotment is gone again, and I still can't use my Xbox.

I made the mistake of hooking my Xbox up with auto-updates turned on. When I hooked up the tether, about a dozen games wanted to update. My Xbox gives me the option to pause these downloads. I wanted to control which ones downloaded first, (at the time,
not knowing none of them were small enough to complete before my Xbox complains about my slow connection), so I even used the "Pause All" function it offered. Said it was pausing them. Then, with no warning, it started them all up again. I kept trying to pause
them, they kept starting themselves again. I finally did a "Cancel All". Do you know what it does when you cancel game updates? It uninstalls that game. I suddenly had another 225GB of free harddrive space I did not have just seconds ago. What I did have were
valuable games. All I did was cancel the updates. My Xbox hijacked itself. It did not bother to have the moral decency to tell me that proceeding with the update cancel would completely uninstall the games.

I was getting 2GB of high speed data a month on my phone plan. I have increased that to 14GB per month, at great expense. Today I watched my Xbox swallow 12GB of that 14GB for this month, yet it claims to have downloaded only just under 9GB for one game
I am trying to re-install. Ironically it's a 360 game that I purchased and have the "Premium Edition" disks for, and then repeated the purchase online on my Xbox One X. When I put the disk in, it says it can't play that game on this system, and chastised that
I check the list of compatible games.

I got 8.9GB of the 35GB download today. Have 2GB of high speed data throughput left this month. Must wait until my phone renews next month before I'll have more data. Looks like some time in December I should have this first game restored back on my system
so I can play it. 11 more games to go ... another 175GB ... sometime early to mid 2021, I guess before I have everything it blew away by arrogantly stopping downloads due to a slow connection, even though they were going through. Then arrogantly verifying
what it downloaded before is correct before downloading more.

Oh. That's right. It re-verifies. I'll never get past that 8.9GB as it re-downlods it again and again, reaches my daily limit, and arrogantly stops the download due to the slower speed, and drains my data for the month in one day. My Xbox has permanently
    hijacked itself.

How can I get it to continue downloading at slow speeds? How can I make it stop downloading what it claims it already downloaded before downloading the rest? How can I get my games back fast? It sure stole them from my hard drive fast. All but bricked it.

    :)

even Sony has to reverify partial file downloads by crc check or checksum. It doesn't and can't just see you have 53% of the file and grab the other 47%. File transfers are not necessarily sequential in nature.

    Well, that confirms it, then.

My Xbox not only hijacked itself, it's a permanent condition ...

UNTIL IT CAN COME DOWN OFF OF IT'S HIGH HORSE AND USE A SINGLE CRC TYPE OF CHECK ON THE ENTIRE FILE ONCE IT HAS ALL OF THE UNVERIFIED "CHUNKS", LIKE ANY OTHER FILE SYSTEM IN THE WORLD.

Verify what it already downloaded AFTER downloading the rest. Believe me, it will come out to an intact file. It's been proven for decades.

Time to get a PlayStation, I guess. Microsoft cut their throats on this one.

Thank you for the confirmation, Gimpy_P.

    Off to Sonyland.

    Thanks, M3tal Daz3,

Speed has a lot to do with online gaming, but really, not much to do with downloading files, other than the time it takes to get the job done. That is, on virtually any other file transfer system in the world, except the Xbox. So why does the Xbox stop a
download, just because it's going slow, even though it's going steady? Does that make sense to anyone? Obviously it made sense to someone, because someone thought it would be a good idea to program it that way ... to do that to me as a personal assault.

It's just flat out snobby. "You can't have your files if we have to give them to you slowly. We've got them, and YOU can't have them, slowpoke." Absolutely insulting.

My first file download to a device of my own happened in the 1990's at 300bps. It worked. My Xbox can't figure out 36Kbps? (Um, my approximate measurement of my data transfer rate on REAL computers using the slow speed tethered connection is about 36Kbps.
Um, also, those REAL computer file transfers don't fail just to complain that it's slow.)

    Hi,

Note that your Xbox 360 games can't run directly and install from discs, they need to be downloaded via the internet. This is why you'll either be prompted they are not playable or asked to download them.

The system needs to re-verify the validity of the chunks already downloaded, if it didn't run the check the system wouldn't be able to continue with partially downloaded files.
