Why did my Xbox One S beep and click

I bought my xbox one S on august 2nd. Today while i was playing halo 5 online it made a long beep for 2 seconds and then it made a click sound. Is that normal? I'm still playing and havent had any problems.

Random Beep

I have no external hard drive.

My Xbox one s will randomly beep it can happen when playing a game or when in standby mode.

Its Completely random.

It's like a PC beep if you get what I mean like Some PCs beep when you turn them on.

Doesn't seem to affect the console but it annoys me.

 

I would say that it's not. Do you have the console plugged into a surge protector? If you do unplug it from the surge protector and plug it straight into a wall outlet. It doesn't need to be plugged into a surge protector because it already has one built
in with the internal power supply.

 

it is plugged into the wall. i havent had any problems with my xbox since then. im just worried that click sound is a sign that one day the disc drive or hard drive will stop working.

Hard to say why the console may have done this, has it done it before or done it since this recent occurrence? If you just purchased the console you could of course exchange it, but if it's not causing any performance issues and hasn't happened since, I
wouldn't worry at this point.

 

My first post was the first time it happened. Today is the second time it happened. It hasn't caused any performance issues

If you're not noticing any performance issues, you should be fine. However, the console should be under warranty still. So if you wanted to get it serviced to remedy that issue. You can do so online

it was coming from the hard drive. i did an internet seach and the clicking noise was similar to the "hard drive click of death". A failing hard drive.

My cousin's xbox one S made the same clicking noise with no beep, the clicking in his xbox was coming from the fan

I had a similar click sound on mine today. Got it delivered yesterday, so playing it today and that clicking sound started playing around. Unfortunately my One S just shutdown completely, touched it and it was baking hot where the fan area is but alot more
from the power supply area. Left it to cooldown, power back on, after less than 1 hour gaming it shutdown again, no click sound, and baking hot again in the same area. I can only assume i have a faulty unit, anyway called retailer and getting full refund.

Just for info, my One S was in an open area, so well ventilated.

 

I've been having the same issue, glad to hear I'm not alone. I have a 2TB launch edition, the best way to describe it is a prolonged high pitch beep that lasts for about 3 or 4 seconds. Sometimes it just does the beep and other times it's a beep and click
noise right afterwards, but I also have some sessions where it doesn't happen at all. It usually happens to me in the middle of a gaming session but doesn't affect gameplay, just very annoying. I noticed when I did a power cycle it stopped happening for about
a week but started happening again. I have the console plugged right into the wall and it's in a well ventilated area. I'm actually debating on sending it in to be looked at, I just don't know how long something like that would take.

Repair/Replacements generally take around 21 days to receive your Xbox One console. Keep in mind, it may take longer or shorter depending on how busy it is. If you decide to send your Xbox One out, please let us know how it goes

 

Thanks for the info Mister Maka, I'll post here if I end up going that route. If I do, I'll probably wait for a good time where I don't mind going without it for awhile.

 

I sent mine in for this problem. It did it literally once a day. They sent it back to me saying they couldn't find anything wrong with it and that they never could get it to do it.
