Why did my Xbox Accessories App lose shift-key keyboard key functionality?

There are a few possible reasons why your key combinations are not working on the Elite Series 2 controller paddles.

1. The key combination mode is disabled.

By default, key combination mode is disabled on the Elite Series 2 controller. To enable it, follow these steps:

1) Open the Xbox Accessories application.
2) Select "Controller & Accessories".
3) Select your Elite Series 2 controller.
4) Select "Advanced Settings".
5) Activate the "Keyboard Mode" option.

2. The keys you are using are not compatible with the key combination mode.

Keyboard shortcut mode only supports the function keys, arrow keys, Enter key, Tab key, Delete key, Home key, Pause/Pause key and Escape key. If you try to use other keys, they will not work in key combination mode.

You should be able to do it.

Please, follow these steps:

Open the Xbox Accessories app.

Scroll to your Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 and select Configure.

Select a profile to adjust or create a new one.

Select the Edit button and in the Mapping tab select the icon or letter for the button or input you’d like to change.

Select Primary and in the pop-up menu select the Key tab.

In this menu you can remap a single keyboard key with as many of the listed modifier keys as you want. Use Assign a key to choose the keyboard key you want mapped to the controller button or input and then select as many of the modifier key checkboxes as desired for the following: Shift, Ctrl, Alt, Win.
