    why did it ask me to let xbox app control my device during an update on my new surface pro? Does it have access to any of my information? Why would I want xbox app to control my device? I don't understand, why it even asked.

    add the security precaution any time any app access is any aspect of your account, which would include logging in to play games, tracking achievements and so on and so forth , your asked to give permission.

    There is nothing nefarious about this whatsoever. Xbox is part of Windows just like notepad, whether you choose to utilize it or not.

    I second the Device Support site. I've not had any issues from there for the repairs I've needed when it came to my 360 and Surface Pro repairs needed.

    Is this a controller that was purchased separately or did it come with a console?

    Correction: this is NOT working on a Surface Pro 3. Interestingly on my Surface Pro 3 the app was still open from last night so it looked like it was working. After closing it and trying to launch it again, I now have the same instant crash issue on this
