Why did I have to change my old name?

I received a message that I absolutely had to change my old gamertag "SteelersFreak11" because it was reported too many times. If you consult the rules, it states the following regarding Forced Gamertag Change:

"A forced Gamertag change is imposed when a Gamertag is determined to be inappropriate by the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement Team. Examples of inappropriate Gamertags include names that visually resemble, sound like, represent,
hint at, abbreviate, or insinuate any of the following:

Profane words or phrases

Topics or content of a sexual nature

Hate speech (including but not limited to racial, ethnic, or religious slurs)

Unlawful drugs or controlled substances

Unlawful activities"

But I didn't have any of those? How on earth could my favorite football team be seen as offensive by the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement Team?

Changed Gamertag

I paid to change my gamertag. But when I sign into my account, it still is my old gamertag. Why did it not change? Is there something I need to do?

Xbox enforcement

So my old gamertag Baertraped was recently changed for a terms violation. My question what did I violate to cause this? And why do I have to pay to change my gamertag when MICROSOFT changed my gamertag not me?

you would not get a message to change it it would automatically be changed if it was against the rules yours was not, and if it was changed for you it would be a name like HappyPuppy12345. you did not have to change it to the one you have now as there was
nothing wrong with the old name. and as for 'reported too many times' all it takes is ONE report to have a tag investigated, if and when it is found against the rules THEN they give you the random tag.

I'm not entirely sure who sent you the message but like Dave said if it violated the Code of Conduct it would have been changed automatically to something generic and you would have gotten an email (the email associated with your GT) about it.

They change it for you if it deems problem. Then you change it from the generic one they give you to something that doesn't violate the CoC. From what I see though yours didn't violate it.

What message did you recieve when loggig in under the old name??? How did you suddenly notice it was changed??? Why is it clearly an automated name??? YOU choose the name, random or not, even when forced.

I have Changed my Name on Epic ,ingame is also my old Name. I have Changed by Xbox and Epic ingame my old name

i think once it has been changed you will have to pay to change it back and HOPE that your old name did not get taken by somebody else. if somebody else has your old name then you will not get it back.
