  1. Why did I buy this console?

I'll start by giving you a rundown as to why I went with Xbox one on launch day. I had previously had a ps3 and xbox 360 and I really did enjoy both for the exclusive games that they each offered. However, the xbox 360 was clearly superior in the following
ways; Networking-anytime you wanted to play your 360 with your friends it was super easy to join parties, know when your friends got online and add them to the current online game you were playing, layout-the layout on the 360 was aesthetically appealing while
being functional and easily navigated, the games- loved Halo 4 (who didnt), bioshock infinite (blew my freaking mind), gears of war (who didnt shed a tear when dom died), batman (the rocksteady ones, because lets be honest origins was awful), and finally minecraft
( beautiful and simple game that anyone can enjoy). There are many other reasons the xbox 360 was a fantastic console but now i have to get to why I am writing this.

To say the least Microsoft, you earned my business for the xbox one because of the 360. However, If i were to go back to launch day knowing what I know now I would go with a PS4 and not even bat an eye. Everything that was great and i mean GREAT about the
360 is now completely non-functional changed to the point where it is non-recognizable and not to mention DIFFICULT. If I am using a gaming system I have three requirements; its fun, its simple, and its functional. Let me start with what happened after the
launch. There werent any GOOD games out for the console (which i can understand if you plan on coming out with some pretty awesome ones this year but we will get to that later. The first game that I really picked up and enjoyed was madden 25 and even with
this game the amount of technical issues my friends and i had to go through to make this any sort of fun were embarrassing for EA and microsoft. So the party system, there would be times we would be in the exact same party and not be able to talk to eachother????
How does that make any sense? we literally couldnt click the button on the awful SNAP FEATURE that said enable party chat (something like that) because it was greyed out. We would spend a half hour trying to get our party chat to work just so we could have
fun playing a video game. This isnt where the issue with just this one game ends unfortunately. My friends and I played a connected careers in madden 25 and whenever our teams were matched up against one another we couldnt be in the same party and start up
the game. Yeah ridiculous. When we would try to connect to play our game it would crash the system and reboot the XBOX. You know what we had to do to make this work? We had to each get in separate parties join each others game wait until we got to the football
game start and then we could join a party, however this didnt work for our other friends who wanted to also talk to us since there were 8 of us doing connected careers. The two people playing in the game had to play their game in isolation so it wouldnt crash
while the other six were in a different party. If one of the others joined our party the console would crash and make us start over. Still not done with the issues I had with this game and the console, can you believe it, ME EITHER. When we got through three
seasons of our connected career, we suddenly couldnt continue to the next season. GREAT all of those seasons we put in, all of those drafted players, all of those new stadiums, superbowl titles...........GONE. Thanks EA and MICROSOFT that was fantastic. Moving
on to the app system on the xbox one, every time i need to get to my friends i need to open an app, every time i need to accept an invite and the hold xbox button doesnt work (which is often) i have to go back to the dashboard and go all the way to the top
for it to not be there or not launch the game i was invited to, let me just say your current layout/app system DOESNT WORK. Go back to how the 360 worked it was PERFECT. It was no secret what you had to do to beat sonys console, all you had to do was take
the 360 upgrade its graphics (as far as i can tell, not that impressive) and controller (hats off by the way the controller is fantastic, good thing you got something right). Now onto minecraft for the xbox one. Man I was realllllly excited for this to come
out, checking forums every day to see if it was out or when it was go to be released. My roommates and I sprinted around the house in excitement when it debuted in the xbox store. Well AGAIN it was just another letdown for me. We had a map from the 360 version
that is able to be uploaded to the new xbox one version (hooray exactly what we wanted). except, wait, the map doesnt get any bigger? cool now we still cant do anything with this map until an update comes out in who knows how long. But you know what we accepted
that and thought we could still have some fun with a new map in the mean time. We explored our new map for a long time and realized, wait, the map isnt scrolling this is strange we are literally off the map right now. Wasn't a big deal we kept on trucking.
We started mining/building and played for a good 4 hours while having terrible connectivity issues, Keep in mind we live in the same apartment with 30up/30down internet speed with everything else running fine on the internet. This is when we started to get
a little angry and said we are done for the night. The next day we jumped on to play again because we gave you the benefit of the doubt AGAIN that the servers were really busy. We checked our chests and everything was gone. All of our progress, all of our
stuff was GONE. Needless to say we were very angry and didnt play for a couple of days. We cooled off and tried again. We were having a blast, no connectivity issues having fun for a long day off of work. The next day we get on and all of the chests are empty!!!!!
Frustrated we quit and didnt play for another couple days. Which leads me to tonight, trying to get back on to the map gives me a server error and will not let me join the game. I am DONE with this crap. And I mean CRAP, this console that I spent 500 dollars
on along with 200 plus dollars in games is garbage.

Now to the next part of my rant. I work for a retailer that sells these consoles everyday. I would talk to some customers about buying systems and tell them how much i love xbox and how in my opinion it is a better console for the reasons i listed about
the 360. I cant do that anymore and neither do some of my associates due to the same types of issues. Just think if i am having this many issues with my xbox imagine what issues everyone else is having too. I didnt buy this machine so it could be a glorified
netflix box. I bought it so I could have fun with my friends playing games that i enjoy. It has become to much of a hassle to try to have fun with this system.

What do you think of my Xbox experience Microsoft?

    :)

    Why did I buy this

Of course they're going to tell you that. That isn't saying anything about the fanboys there.

Thats typical advice from a mod and has happened to me on several forums.

I personally think the fanboys here are worse.

Why did I buy this console?

I'll admit, by the sounds of it, your experience has sucked. You have all rights to be frustrated.

In regards to your mentioning 'difficult' features that were available at launch, i'm not going to disagree. Some decisions were made poorly regarding the UI and the overall UX. Very clearly with the Kinect in mind. However the percentage of people who didn't
want to primarily use the Kinect was larger than the Xbox team had imagined, and they've since been making changes to make the console much more usable & controller-friendly. I'm personally thrilled that the team has been taking feedback from the community
and trying to solve the design issues people are facing. The regular updates are very welcome.

I'm skeptical that the game issues you're facing (minus matchmaking problems) are based on the console however. I think most, if not all of the blame can be placed on the individual developers.

I think there's a larger issue at play here, not focused on the Xbox One or the glitchy games directly. The gaming industry as it stands appears to be trending towards releasing products that are fairly bare, not the final result the company had envisioned.
The companies build the platforms in a way they can easily be built upon. It's commonplace to see a game released, only for it to have almost double the amount of content a year later.

But why? Engagement. People come back to things after updates come out. It makes the user feel like the company is constantly improving their product (implying they care) and invites trust & warm feelings to the brand.

Companies want engagement and they think they can achieve that by releasing not unfinished, but un-finalised products and letting the respective communities give feedback as to what they would like and not like.

For games, I think that is damaging. Games are meant to be masterful experiences in which the players biases are challenged. If you let them bring features they demand in, you have a chance of ruining the feel of your game.

But ultimately, for consoles, I think it's one of the best things that can happen. Sure the Xbox One started off on a rocky slope but with the amount of valuable feedback the team would have received (this very thread included) they can work on making the
console the perfect gaming experience. Maybe the slogan on the advertising should have been 'shaped by you, for you' instead of implying the device is in it's 'final' build. But it's a reality we have to accept in software / hardware these days. I can only
    see eventual benefits from it.

I am 100% open to critique and discussion about what i've said. I'd be closed minded if I wasn't open to be proven wrong.

Does anyone know why the 2nd poster "bumped" the thread 15 minutes after it was created? Surely it hadn't moved off the front page.

Sounds like a horrible experience but I'm going to have to reiterate what DanoDefused mentioned most of your issues seem to stem from the experience you had with your two games which is a developer issue not a Microsoft issue. The games I have haven't had
any game breaking issues and especially not to the extent you have had.

I have to admit that this type of thing was exactly why I was skeptical about purchasing the machine in general. I will layout my personal experience as it happened for me. I bought the first Xbox one only to have it boot up for 2 seconds and crap out. No
you did not read that wrong it literally lasted two seconds. The second one I exchanged it for did not boot up at all, the third time I exchanged it I was surprised to see that it actually made it past the first update only to be stuck on the circle loading
for the next hour. Needless to say you made it much further than I did in regards to actually playing games as opposed to me going through two exchanges with three failed Xboxes.

After this experience and the horrific experience with battlefield 4 on the Xbox 360(which also had boot up issues due to crappy hard drives). I have decided with out prejudice to swear off Xbox products altogether. This machine was far too overhyped and
failed to even meet the basic expectations that they themselves set.

All consoles and games have their issues but over the past year it seems the standards have really sunk to a new all time low. The very first Xbox as far as I know was flawless, 360 and the slim were at one time great machines and the Xbox one experience
was nothing but draining and demoralizing. Definitely turned me(A long time loyal Xbox gamer) away from their products for the time being.

  10. The very first xbox's (8GB) had a tone of problems, from sparking internal power supplies, to the dreaded Dirty Disc Errors. (DDE) - I went through 3 before the warranty was up.

With the 360 (Phat model) it was Red Rings of Death (RROD) and bad optical drives. It took the EU courts to finally get MS to admit it.

Best time to buy a MS console is after it's been out for at least a couple of years. Then you have to be careful and not pick up an earlier edition by mistake. Check the manufacturing date if the packaging allows. If not... Stay away from it!

  11. I will agree with some of what ^ElectroFlying^ has stated.

I did not buy a 360 until I knew I could have a console that was reliable. That seemed to come with the 3rd incarnation of the console with the Jasper chipset. And my Jasper Elite is still going strong after 4 1/2 years.

Never had any problems with my original 8GB Xbox. The only problems I really heard about were sticking disc trays and laser failure. But these tended to happen to folk who used their console 24/7.

As with a lot of everyday products, including well know car manufacturers, certain faults can be traced back to a component defect during manufacture. And where does nearly everything appear to be made these days?
