  1. Why can't you change joystick settings on non-elite controllers?

I recently bought an Xbox One X and am currently super disappointed with the lack of customizability for the standard controllers. The elite controllers have the option of allowing the user to choose sensitivity profiles for each joystick, while this software
feature seems to be unavailable for the standard ones.

The first thing I noticed with the standard controllers is a huge deadzone area, where small movements with the analog joysticks basically do nothing. For myself (and many others I've seen online), this makes FPS games nearly unplayable for me based on the
skill level I was at previously on an xbox 360, given that I can longer do quick precise movements. A couple of friends that also bought xboxes at the same time reported the same issues (and one has already returned his because of this).

I know that this functionality is being kept from the standard controllers (most likely to force users to drop another $200 on the elite controller) and that there is no hardware limitation that prevents software from tweaking this.
It was previously available (most likely due to a bug) as mentioned here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CompetitiveForHonor/comments/5xcp9r/how_to_remove_deadzone_on_xbox_one_cont...

    It's probably something as simple as a flag in software stating if ( PROFILE != XBOX_ONE_ELITE ) { disableEliteMenu() }

I think it's ridiculous that this isn't offered to other non-elite controllers, considering how many people have complained and would benefit from such customization. If this isn't fixed, I will definitely be returning my Xbox within then next 30 days since
I will not be spending an additional $200 just to unlock this functionality.

    :)

I connect my xbox 360 joystick on windows 10 but it doesn't work

    Hi,

Corrupted components of your Xbox app is one possible reason why you can't use your Xbox 360 joystick on windows 10. We need to gather more information about the issue by answering the following questions below:

    1. Have you done any changes on your system?

    2. Have you attempted any troubleshooting steps yet?

    3. Have you tried a different Xbox 360 joystick?

It's not a feature that's built into the standard controllers for the Xbox One series.

  5. Thanks, I'll post there. But I disagree, it is definitely something you can customize. There is no way that there is any hardware limitation that prevents you from tuning the joysticks. Any controller, be it from the original xbox, xbox 360, ps 1 etc, all
have joysticks that are customizable. For a basic example:

    - Let's say you have a joystick that is fixed to one axis (only goes left and right). The joystick is simply connected to a sensor that outputs an analog value e.g. between -1 and 1. So all the way left == -1, centered == 0, right == 1, somewhere between
the center and right is a decimal value >0 and < 1.

    - Better illustration: ( -1 ------- -0.5 ------- 0 ------- 0.5 ------- 1 )

    - When a controller sends this sensor value to the xbox, all the xbox does is apply some sort of pre-tuned profile (i.e. an equation) that translates that analog sensor value to the corresponding velocity value that is applied to their cursor on screen.
This could be as simple as: take the analog value and multiply it by some number, and that's the velocity of your cursor. In this case, the curve would be a straight line, close to the one below.

Why can't you change joystick settings on non-elite controllers? [IMG]

    - All consoles that have a controller have a piece of software on it that is responsible for translating this analog value to the response of the cursor on screen. Without it, that sensor value is meaningless. The only way it would be hardware limitation
is if this translation was somehow done in hardware via an ASIC for performance reasons, which I find extremely unlikely and illogical. The only difference now is that the elite controllers on the xbox one are the only controllers I've seen for which they've
opened up the option to play with this setting. Normally I wouldn't mind, but to me (and the others I've chatted with), it feels like the first half of the joystick has a very limited response, and there is a huge non-linear jump once you get past that halfway
point. If I were to describe the curve, it feels something like this (although less exaggerated):

Why can't you change joystick settings on non-elite controllers? [IMG]

In other words, to get a decent amount of movement in a short period of time, I have to move the joystick into the second half on either side (using the single axis joystick example, I would need to go into either [-0.5, -1] or [0.5, 1], i.e. the outer two
quadrants). Because I need to be in these areas to move quickly, there isn't a lot of resolution since I'm only ever using half the available real-estate available for the joystick. It feels like I often have to resort to just tapping the joystick against
either wall since that can be more reliable that trying to make quick, precise micro-movements in those quadrants.

Hopefully this is enough info, but my point is, this tuning is 100% available, but they're keeping to just xbox elite controllers and losing customers as a result.

  6. Actually to clarify, even if there was some ASIC performing this calculation using a fixed algorithm, there is still always the option to further correct this via software. But the reason I say it isn't a hardware limitation is because:

    a) Controllers are not sending sensor so fast that the xbox can't process it (no need for ASICs), neither does it need to send data that fast to get smooth motion control

    b) Since applying a tuning curve to the sensor data would technically slow down the performance (bottleneck for processing is software instead of hardware), that would make the elite controllers "less performant" than standard controllers.
But as mentioned in a) this probably isn't an issue.

Drifting Elite Controller only in Hitman 1 and 2?

after a certain amount of clicks and movements the joysticks do seem drift I suggest trying different joysticks and having a look at the control settings and see if anything has changed in there.
Thanks cant find much in the hitman settings settings ive only had this one for a few weeks had one replaced for drift previously then a front bumper just popped right out now this is my 3rd elite. The non elites have ever had an issue but the premium ones
    seem to.
