Why Cant We Use Headset For Voice Controls???

As the title says, why is this not a feature?

They have clearly designed the interface to work with voice controls so why limit it to kinect only when they now sale a version of the Xbox One without a kinect?

Are they hoping that people like myself will become frustrated at the way it is designed and go out and purchase kinect?

I would personally love this feature, i will not however pay the price they want for a kinect sensor just so I can use voice controls.

    What do you guys think?

    Should they have this feature?

Do people without kinect 'deserve' to use voice controls?

Is there a technical reason as to why this isnt happening?

Do you expect to see it implemented in the future?

Be interesting to see if others think like me or if people are totally against the idea.

    :)

I believe that there are some technicalities surrounding the use of voice commands via Kinect. As they originally said the Kinect does indeed have its own dedicated RAM space.

So what would you do? Just wear a headset to use voice controls?

As a Day One purchaser (who was a Kinect skeptic, and hardly used the original Kinect) the Kinect 2.0 made me a believer and has totally been worth it to me. I could not imagine my Xbox One without the Kinect 2.0.

No not buy a headset just for voice controls, alot of gamers these days use a headset all the time (i do as i like the volume loud but have small children in bed when i play). I just think instead of double taping the home button and pressing X it would
be easier to use voice controls.

Prefer the voice commands without having to wear a headset personally, only time I wear one is when in party which isn't that often these days. Plus I use voice commands to control Netflix and turn the box on, I don't want to use a headset for those
functions. No point in them having to develop two voice command systems to accommodate both. You want voice use a Kinect. In my opinion as that's how the system was designed originally. Those who chose not to buy a Kinect enabled system can't expect the
    same functions.

Exactly. The Kinect was developed and marketed as the peripheral that handles voice commands and motion sensing. Even if the voice command technology could be somehow programmed into the console itself... it shouldn't be.

    The main arguments against the Kinect were;

I don't want to talk to my Xbox or 'flail around in front of it'... I feel awkward.

    It will spy on me.

I have no need for it.

I don't want to pay extra for it.

    Now some are asking for voice command abilities apart from using Kinect? For those who want it, let me say this;

First argument is null, apparently you don't feel that awkward.

    Half of spying is listening

If you have a need for half of it, cut it in half...

If you purchased a system without Kinect, you didn't pay for a Kinect. If you're now asking for half of its features, they should build a specific headset that will handle said features... and charge you accordingly. Otherwise, you're just asking for half
of its features when you paid for none, in which case, I smell a con.

Those reasons why you don't want it sound like since you paid for it you don't want others who did not pay for it to have the feature to me.

There is no reason why the X1 could not do voice commands through the headset and if you can do it through the headset that means that they could also just release a $20 usb microphone array that sits on top of the console that allows people to use voice
    commands without a headset too.

I think it will happen in a update in the future. But personally I will still not use it.

there is a reason why voice commands cant be done through the headset and that is that all the commands are processed in the kinect sensor itself not on the console, voice commands cant be processed through the headset, it just does not have the capability
to do it, unless they were to create a new headset with features of the kinect built into it, but they would probably charge upwards of £90 for something like that and personally i dont see that happening myself, if people so badly want to use features that
are only available with the kinect version of the console they should get that version end of, you cant have it both ways, IMO the xbox one is a far better machine with kinect than it is without.

when will people understand that voice controls are not as simple as speaking and boom its done... headsets turn electronic signal into sound by pulsing a magnet that vibrates a skin...

now to make that work as controls... you need something to process how that skin in vibrating and what it means... translate that electronic vibration into a command.. issue that command to the main processor of the XB1 and have the XB1 execute those commands...

to do this.. you will need the kinect guts (which does all of this PLUS more) inside the console itself.. making it bigger in size (god forbid it gets bigger) OR have a headset the size of a 1970s radio host... that will get so hot from processing it will
burn your 15 year old sideburns off

your choice... buy a dam kinect or be bald with a strained neck with a 15 pound headset

    Excuses excuses just stop.

I know reality can be tough for some people to swallow but voice commands through the headset on a video game console is currently being done...So tell me all knowing folks how is this possible without the super computer inside the Kinect that you say makes
    it all happen LOL.

The X1 could do it through software snap out of it.

Why Cant We Use Headset For Voice Controls???

I want to be able to play Kinect Sports Rivals with just the controller, or video chat using the Skype app on my console without a Kinect.... I'm sure you can do it. With video chat, just plug in your camcorder or a webcam into one of the USB ports on the
console. Wait... that won't work. I want the Features you get with Kinect, but to be able to get them without having a Kinect. Just kidding. If you want the Features that badly, just get the Kinect. It's well worth the investment. I want Voice Commands so
that I can spell out every letter of a code I want to redeem off Xbox Live without having to input it on the onscreen keyboard (to redeem codes). I would like to plug in my barcode scanner so that I can use it to scan QR codes something which Kinect does without
typing out the is it 25 digit code. Dude, just get a Kinect. Get it, and you can have these privileges.

There are so many things you can do with the Xbox 1 Kinect: (1) sign in securely, even if you have a twin, the Kinect uses 'numbers' to examine your face and body, even twins don't have exactly the same DNA no one for example has exactly the same finger
prints (2) voice commands (3) gestures (4) video chat on your console (5) use it for voice chat with others (6) play games using Kinect - there ARE several games which have Kinect Features (7) QR Code scanner, you don't even have to smack the code physically
at the sensor, it can read it at a distance, and it saves you entering that long code to redeem codes and content off Xbox Live. If you ask me, it's worth the extra one off price of $100 or so. Forget the spying thing. We're talking a giant reputable world
company Microsoft here. They have high standards on protecting our privacy. When you sign in, the sign in on this site's page is highlighted green with a padlock on IE address bar, that's how serious they're about protecting your personal info.

Your right, the Xbox One could do it with a system update.

However this would require more system processing to be dedicated to listening for voice commands. Plus remember that those people with Kinect can say "Xbox On" that is a voice command that simply couldn't be done over a headset.

So to some up, you want the system to have less power than it already does so that you can use voice commands over a headset.

I have an answer for you that is the best of both worlds, BUY A KINECT.
