Why can't we have a free gamertag change like we did with the 360

I thought for sure after 9 years with the same gamertag, I could finally change my gamertag since I didn't bother with the 360 and I had some great name ideas afterwards. Call me cheap but I'm still not sold on paying $10 just to change my name on Xbox Live.
This is almost as bad as getting .20 for your birthday on Xbox Rewards...it probably cost them more in processing fees to "gift" everyone that amount than it's actual value...LOL

Xbox Live Gamertag

Why do Xbox only let you change your gamertag once for free?? Why can't we change our gamertag for free when we renew our xbox live... because in theory we can create a new xbox live account but then we lose our gamerscore.

Uhh... Why should we now be entitled to free gamertag changes?

It's still going to cost $10 to change your gamertag. What does making unused gamertags available have to do with removing the $10 fee?

Well considering that just about all -tags are taken, to allow a free change would just wipe out every one.....that wasn't annoying.

 

Must have been wishing thinking you're right...as for all the tags available not even close unless you're talking about every combination of childish 420 or *** reference has just about been taken. And THAT is annoying...

All the tags arent taken but good solid ones with no numbers to replace letters mostly are. I think they should allow numbers to start GTs, so I can get rid of these annoying X's.

 

You have to be creative with the gamertag took me about 30 min to figure mine out.

 

wait, I really like getting my 20 cents. I'm planning to save what they give me each year and in 40 years I can buy a used game with it.

 

There is no way I'm ever, ever going to willingly part with my GT during my lifetime...

 

Me either have too many things tied to this gamertag

 

If your Xbox One is your home console you can always make a new gamer tag and play on that while renewing and purchasing content with the current gamer tag. Just a thought.

 

Which is why I am glad I got my name of choice, then again, I go by many names.

 

I keep mines. I spupidly misspell it. But people know ment to be Darkplayer02.

 

In the 360 days i had some friend that wanted to change out gamertag so they would have their friends submit a complaint that it was offensive(even if it wasn't) and after a few days they would get a message from MS saying they have to change it, free
of charge! It was sneaky, but it worked. they only did it once or twice cuz after awhile they thought they would get perma banned or consoled banned
