    Why can't I use my account balance for purchases?


    I logged in today, and I was trying to purchase a DLC for on of my games. When it was at the payment screen, it said "Change payment option." This seemed strange to me since I've only used ms points on my account. i have some of the other points now converted
    into the new currency system, but they are grayed out when I want to use them. I have enough points for what I want to buy, but it only allows me the option to "add a card" to the payment options. It's pretty frustrating. I went to the commerce.microsoft.com
    to see if the problem was there, but I couldn't find anything wrong with the information.

    Any help would be great! I'm on my Xbox 360 if that makes any difference in managing this.

    You have to make the purchase from your console and select ms account

    If I remember correctly, you have to select to pay with a card and then on the next screen it will ask you if you want to use your account balance for the purchase.

    Yes, I was trying to make the purchase on the website. How am I supposed to know that I can't use my MS account balance on the website? Not everyone stalks the forums before making a purchase!

    The website was more than happy to accept the prepaid code!

    If I can't make purchases on the website with my MS account balance, it should

    #1 - clearly state that I can't use MS account balance to pay for purchases via website

    AND

    #2 - it shouldn't accept the prepaid card code on the website!

    Now how do I use the MS account balance?

    Why is my account balance unavailable for a purchase? What would cause some balances to not e eligible? I just used another $120 in balance prior to this.

    Hi there,

    not everything can be purchae via account balance. Some items can only be purchased via a payment option like a credit card and can't be purchase via the balance on your account.

    For example when purchasing Xbox 360 content via xbox.com, Xbox APp or Xbox One console this can only be purchase via payment option.
