Why can't I stream music from USB WHILE playing games?!?!?

This was a feature the Xbox 360 had almost ten years ago!!!

Where is it?

I don't want to keep a mini window snapped open in order to hear my music. I want it to play in the background and have it cancel out all music coming from within the game.

Please tell me this feature is going to be in the very next update. Please!

Agreed! Why not even the "System Video/Music Player"? It bothers me I can't watch videos from my USB drive or stream from my computer like you can do on the 360. Good thing I have my 360.

 

Xbox 360 Slim says no wireless adapter

I recently put a usb into the front of my xbox to listen to music off the usb while playing games. I didn't format the usb so the music would still be on there. But I took out the usb turned off my xbox then turned it back on and it works, so I guess I can't
listen to music from a usb anymore!

 

I don't think it is capable of doing that.

On the PS4 I'm able to do it but I think it'll hog too many resources on the Xbox One.

 

Blu-ray aside the One does seem to be a back-step media wise compared to the Xbox 360.

Apps are still missing a year later, where is the iPlayer, and the Media Player is an organised mess compared to the System Media Player on the 360. Playing music while in-game requires that you give up a quarter of your screen real estate, rather than being
able to play in the background.

True the apps aren't solely a Microsoft issue but a year after launch I would have expected the One to have the same feature set and ease of use as the 360. Hell even the official media remote for the One isn't as functional as the 360 variation.

 

Also while I may not rate Media Centre personally, the option is important to a lot of people.

 

This is something that I need badly. I struggle to play driving games without my custom soundtracks. You was able to rip music on the original Xbox and play it in the background, so the X1 is more than capable.

At this point of time, I highly doubt that Microsoft is ever going to implement this on the Xbox One because it has already been 1 year. If this was a high priority for them, MS would have already made it available by now.

Also, you have to keep in mind that if this option becomes available in the future, it would probably only work with the paid monthly subscription.

Yeah the 360 is much better than the xbox one....They probably could not get the game dvr to work while you were listening to music so they gave up.

 

You can close the snap window while in party chat so they should be able to do it with the media player. And have music still play.

 

It shouldn't hog too many resources on Xbox 1. Both Xbox 1 and PS4 have 8GB RAM, and an AMD Jaguar 8-core APU. Xbox 360 has only 512MB of RAM. So it should be possible on Xbox 1. It's a matter of Microsoft 'updating' the 'software' to be less 'windows 8'
and more 'xbox'.

I've got the Day One Edition of Xbox 1 and I do have to say most of the Xbox Live Features from 360 have returned to Xbox 1 due to the strong feedback to Microsoft. The only main remaining missing Xbox Live Features still missing is music maybe, and voice
messaging. When I got Xbox 1 it was far to 'windows 8' for me, couldn't even do half the stuff 360 can. But the system has come a long was since it launched 22/11/2013. More games, several Xbox Live Features brought back which 360 has.

 

Auswulf has already stated what I was going to say. There are apps that you can still hear while they are unsnapped and running in the background, so I see no reason why it shouldn't be possible.

 

I for one hope it's never implemented.

I don't want to keep muting people in multiplayer games. It's bad enough that people blast music in the background. This feature would make it that much worse.

Put in your ear buds and call it a day.
