Why can't I play BC titles offline on Xbox One?

Thanks for coming to the forums with your issue. Reason they need online is they utilize the Xbox 360 emulator/server to access certain features not available on the Xbox one. Unfortunately, there is no information at this time if they will be able to be
played offline.

Online is not required to play BC games. An internet connection is only required to download the game when you first insert a BC game.

I've done some searching around, and it seems like some are having the same issue for disc games. Others have no issue playing disc based BC games offline.

Try going into the Settings > Network > Go offline, then try again with a BC game that's already been installed.

All I know is most of my BC games are digital, and to my knowledge, they all work offline.

Edit - I just tried my copy of Borderlands 2 while offline, and it wouldn't work either. Once I was connected, it worked right away. I guess it only applies to disc games that are BC.

Is the xbox you're using set as your home xbox?

That would be why

Since you don't live in a xbox live region you can't download bc titles

Bc titles are geo locked

The developer is closed. This is why you can't buy it digitally and why the disc version of the game for the 360 has such a high price.

Not only is BC on hold until the release of Series X, it's unlikely you'll see Nier as a BC title due to licensing issues.
