Why can’t I join cross platform from the switch to Xbox?

Sorry to hear you're having trouble connecting to multiplayer worlds in Minecraft. Is your subscription active for Switch Online?

Please try to check if both your accounts are enabled for multiplayer:

1. Please visit this link https://account.xbox.com/settings

2. Click “Xbox and Windows Online Safety” in the navigation tabs,

3. Select Allow for “You can create and join clubs”, “You can join multiplayer games”, and "You can join cross-network play".

4. Submit.

After this, try to sign out your Microsoft account in the game and sign back in. If the error is still there, try to connect your Switch to a different network from your husband. Hotspot is okay.

he can do cross platform when on his nintendo switch, and xbox support say he CAN’T do it on xbox cos he’s a child.

So tell me, how can it be a fortnite problem, when xbox say they don’t allow it, even though they did allow it?

Part of the problem is conflicting information from within Microsoft.

To save myself and many many others a ton of grief, why not just tell people the actual facts, rather than having bogus cross platform notices come up?

We highly recommend checking this link: Multiplayer and Cross-Platform Play – Home (minecraft.net). Also, according to this official article Minecraft for Nintendo Switch FAQ – Home, make sure you are typing your friend's Gamertags correctly as it clearly states:

"Q: I keep entering my friend’s ID into Cross-Platform friends and can’t find them. Why?

Make sure you are entering your friend’s Gamertag correctly. Please note that you are only able to enter in a player ID for Microsoft’s Gamertag. Other player IDs from other platforms are not supported at this time.".

Thanks Brad, I’ll check it out. My son can play cross platform on his nintendo switch, so it seems to be xbox.

if you’ll remember that the microsoft agent said he thought children could never do cross platform... very odd.
