    Why can't I install games to my external hard drive and what can I do to resolve this?


    I've been trying for a while to install games from the xbox app to my external hard drive, since I only have 1 terabyte to my built-in hard drive while the external has 5. However whenever I try to install via the Xbox App, I am only able to choose the C drive. Why I click the option for why my other drive isn't showing up, the tool-tip explains that the drive isn't formatted to NTFS and/or has the wrong sector size. However, when I go into my drive's formatting, I've found that it is set to NTFS and has a sector size of 4K, what the Xbox App says it needs. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Xbox app, restarting my computer, clearing the Windows store cache, set my external as the default drive for apps to install to via Windows settings, and made sure to have the .GamingRoot file installed on the external drive.

    Hi Samy,

    Yes, I do use an external hard drive but the games are installed in my internal one.

    The external hard drive is a Seagate Game Drive for Xbox (1TB USB 3.0).

    The problem only happens with these two games.

    Don't know why the One X can handle playing COD: Warzone at 4K60FPS but it can't handle simple 2D games...

    I also factory reset my console two weeks ago because my ethernet wasn't working with the Xbox but now it does. I don't feel like it's worth doing it again though.

    Can you please provide an example of the game this happened with and what download size was?

    Hi, sorry for that issue, the problem is the external hard drive, for some reason (I don't know why), the games that require Administrator approval have issue on external drive.
    Thanks for the answer. External hard drive it is not the problem in my case. While trying to find a solution to this Xbox Game pass for PC / Windows Store error I did reinstall Windows 10 on my iMac's internal hard drive. The problem with error 0x8007001f
    persists even when Windows 10 is installed on the internal hard drive.

    Do other games you own that aren't from game pass have the same problem? Do you have an external hard drive. If a game I install to my external hard drive is very laggy I will move it to my internal hard drive which usually fixes the problem.
