Why Can't 360 Controllers Work On Xbox One?

The only gaming consoles I have owned since Nintendo64 have been the Xbox and the Xbox 360. Now I am to the point of considering an Xbox One, but when I see things like this I get upset. I could understand the Xbox controllers not working on the 360 because
of the change to wireless technology and USB connectors. OK, that made sense to me... But it just seems shameful to not allow the 360 controllers to work on the One. Sure, some of the buttons on the One controller are in slightly different locations or
have slightly different shapes, but the 360 and One controllers have essentially the same buttons... Yet Microsoft allowed for no ability to use a 360 wireless controller on the One (fine, maybe whatever extra features the One controller has are not available
-- no problem). To me it seems like a cheap move, purely to squeeze more money out of people.

I have to say that I am very disappointed. Yes, this is a business, and yes Microsoft wants to make money, but come on... Is there really any
solid reason (other than to make money) that the One could not have an option to allow for 360 controller(s) to be used? Is there something I'm missing? I have to ask, because I've done some Googling and have not found any discussions about
this topic. If I am missing some compelling reason, it will make me feel better about Microsoft.

Old Xbox 360 controller not working on slim

My old Xbox 360 controller works on my Xbox phat, but why can't it work on the slim?? When I try to connect it to the Xbox, the controller flashes and doesn't connect. The Xbox slim controllers and old controllers are nothing different except the dome button
is chrome.

Xbox turning it self on

my Xbox keeps turning it self on and can't seem to work out why there's nothing by any controllers or the Xbox it self so what is the problem

Why does this surprise you so much? I can't think of a major console that fully supported the controller from the previous generation and I'm thinking back 25 - 30 years.

Sony hasn't included support for the Dual Shock 3 from the PS3 on the PS4 either. Of course it's to make money. Every console manufacture since the dawn of the console industry has been doing the same thing.

Hi,

The Xbox 360 wireless controllers can't be turned into wired ones with a Play & Charge. This is because even when wired, 360 wireless controllers remain wireless. The cable only provides power, no data is sent.

This is also why they don't appear in game controllers but the generic controller does.

To use a wireless 360 controller on Windows requires a gaming receiver. And the receiver must be for 360 controllers, the official receiver for Xbox One/Series controllers won't work.

I was wondering what would be the best way to convince Microsoft to enable Xbox 360 controllers to work on X1. The one and only reason for me would be for using Xbox 360 fight sticks on Xbox one. Or at least an adapter that allows it. I get the
marking for new hardware but why not let the old ones work as well.

I don't think they can just enable 360 controllers / fight sticks to connect with an Xbox One wirelessly from a hardware or software standpoint. At the same time, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to make them connect with a wired connection. After all,
can't a 360 controller be used on Windows 10?

For the Xbox One controller to work on Windows RT there has to be a driver made for it. At the moment, I don't believe there is so you can't use an Xbox One controller.

As for your Xbox 360 controller, it's wireless. It will remain wireless even if you use the play and charge. Unlike the Xbox One controller, the 360 wireless controller can't be made wired by using a play and charge. If you want to use an Xbox 360 controller
on a Surface RT, it needs to be a wired one.

Tested mine today and it's working perfectly. At first I thought Skyrim wasn't working with the One controller. The reason why it wasn't was because my wired Xbox 360 controller was still plugged in. As soon as I removed the 360 controller, the Xbox One
pad started working. Driver install went fine and all of the games I've tried that support the Xbox 360 controller support One pad so far.

A 360 controller will work with a 360 console, and an Xbox one controller will work with an Xbox One, but a 360 controller will not work with an Xbox One and vice versa.
