Why can I not use a custom gamerpic for a non-adult account?

Unfortunately, at the moment, Xbox only allows custom gamerpics for adult accounts, this restriction is in place to help protect younger players from potentially inappropriate images, as custom uploads aren't screened the same way as the preset ones provided by Xbox. Since it's a safety measure, even if a family organizer is an adult, the system doesn’t currently offer an approval option for custom images on child accounts.

It's not possible to allow a child account to use custom gamerpics. Only adult accounts can use them.

If you're wanting to use a custom gamerpic, he would need an adult account. There is currently no way to use a custom gamerpic on child accounts.

Otherwise, you can change his gamertag to one of the ones Xbox makes available.

The account needs to be an adult account to have the ability to upload a custom gamerpic.

In regards to the Custom Gamerpic, your account would need to be an adult account, not just set to adult defaults under your Privacy and online safety.

As stated in the support article for
Changing your Xbox One gamerpic, Custom images are only available for adult Microsoft accounts. So if your account has a child DOB on it you won't be allowed to change it until the account is graduated to an adult account.
