Why can I not play a game I own because of the game pass?

Thank you for the response, but correct me if I am wrong. That should only affect online multiplayer options? I do not play online everything is local, and have never had this issue before while not having gold. Something odd I found was if I go to the Microsoft store it displays that I own the game, but it is not installed. If it is not installed, then what is installed?

I'm just taking a wild guess here, so apologies if I'm wrong, I think the problem is that you need XBox Gold to play multiplayer games (some single player games that have a MP aspect require it too), if you get Game Pass Ultimate you get the added bonus of getting Gold at the same time as access to the Game Pass catalogue (regular Game Pass doesn't give Gold access)

I don't play Minecraft so I can't be sure, but if there's been an update with new MP content it might need Gold because of changes to requirements.

I have this problem with Ghost Recon, which doesn't let me go past the title screen despite it having the option of single play, other games, like Resident Evil 6, allow you to play SP but asks for Gold the moment you try to get into the MP stuff, it just comes down to the devs decisions when making the game.

As for the install showing as not installed, I'm really not sure at all, but my suggestion is to try installing, the chances are that it'll detect that it really is already installed and update the store (the MS store isn't the greatest to begin with, hence the constant need to update it).

No-one here can answer the question as to why. I have no clue why some games are Play Anywhere titles...for example, Forza Horizon 5 (as mentioned above) is a Play Anywhere title developed by a Microsoft owned Studio.....yet, the Halo masterchief Collection is not a Play Anywhere title (I own it on Xbox but had to use the Game Pass version of it for PC) despite also being developed by a Microsoft owned studio (and despite earlier games of Halo Wars 1 and 2 being PA games)

However, in the case of Odyssey, the reason you can play it on PC game Pass is because that includes access to Ubisoft's platform...when you want to play it on PC, you are re-directed to the Ubisoft launcher to play it.

Thanks for the update and I really apologize but we need to have the license. The reason why you're not able to play the game now is because you don't have an Xbox game pass or don't own the game.
