Why can i no longer buy year subscription of xbox live?

They removed the option to buy a 12 month subscription through Xbox over the summer. Anyone who had already purchased a 12 month and kept it going, would still get the yearly subscription. You can still buy yearly prepaid codes through retailers.

Xbox no longer has only live subscriptions on the xbox . The subscription is in the gamepass now so you either pay monthly for live and gamepass core or go through a third party to get a years worth. For cheaper you can still buy the game out right and play single player Though and note some games have a free to play system where you dont even need a subscription to play multiplayer anymore just internet Like pubg and fort

When renewing an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription it converts the three months xbox live to 1 month xbox live. You can wait untill the subscription has fully ended to redeem three months of xbox live. I recommend buying many months or a year of xbox
live then buying one month of game pass ultimate it will change the whole subscription to xbox game pass ultimate. This can only go up to 36 months

Was your account orginally set as home on his console?

If so this may be why he is no longer able to access Live, and games. If your account was set as home on his xbox, then you set it as home on your new xbox, he will no longer have access to game sharing.

You can fix this by signing into his xbox, setting your account as home, then signing out.

If you’re looking to just buy him his own Xbox Live subscription, you will have to purchase it from his account.

However buying a new Live subscription will not give him access to your games. He will only have access to game that were purchased on his account. You can only game share with the account that is set as your home.
