Why aren't Ryse and Forza on sale?

MS already has cloud storage/data transfer services with or without Xbox Live. The infrastructure is already conveniently in place, they just happen to use it also to digitally distribute games.

No reason to try to convince you though, obviously. Bandwidth has continually gotten cheaper and cheaper per GB, especially since Amazon started offering dirt cheap prices for it.

I can't speak for whether digital vs. physical distribution is cheaper, but what I will say is that I'm not sure where you're getting these Deals with Gold sales that involve both FM5 and Ryse - there's no mention of it that I've seen, even directly on this
very site's
Deals with Gold page. I would like for you to show me proof of this rather than insulting everyone around you that you think is wrong or who disagrees with you.

The part I am referring to is the 2nd bullet point, which reads.

"Exclusive Discounts. Deals with Gold will also launch for Xbox One in June, delivering discounts for great games each month, with significant savings for Xbox Live Gold members. The first titles offered in June will include “Forza Motorsport 5,” “Ryse:
Son of Rome,” and a few other surprises. In the coming months, we will offer significant savings of up to 50 – 75 percent off certain titles. This program will continue to be available for Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox 360. And new on Xbox One, we will launch

just want to point out that the bandwidth cost would be huge for any game microsoft has sat on a server think about it lets say for example that microsoft sells a million copy's of forza 5 digitally, that translates into over 36 million GB of data been sent
from there server to our consoles, of course that transfer is going to cost money, forza and ryse will both get a deal at some point this month afterall it does say it includes and is not limited to those 2 titles so stop moaning because your no more entitled
to free games or deals on games than anyone else is, it is a bonus that to be honest microsoft dont have to gives if they really didn't want to.

 

Did some quick math using your numbers.

1 million copies of Forza sold digitally @ 59.99 = Just shy of $60 million dollars.

Using Amazon Web Services price of 5 cents per GB, which MS can use just like any other business, the cost to distribute 1 million copies = $1.8 million dollars.

Now, to distribute that same million physically, I am going to make a very safe estimate that for each $59.99 physical copy would cost about $10 to store in a warehouse with paid security guards/rent on the property (or a large lump sum for the real estate/building
of the warehouse), truck to a retail outlet, produce the case and HD-DVD, and pay all workers involved in these processes, as well as the retail outlets chunk of the profit. Because why else would they sell a game in their store and take up space unless they
were getting a decent profit per game, atleast $5 to even make it worth their while.

By the way, in the real world, I'd say it would be closer to $15 per copy that is lost per sale at a traditional retailer if it is a physical copy. But I'll humor you and say it's only $10.

So, selling it digital, they would make around 58.2 million ($60 x 1 million, minus $1.8 million in bandwidth costs if they use Amazon Web Services.)

Physically? $60 x 1 million, minus 10 million for all of the many costs I have already listed more than enough times. Probably the biggest part of that 10 million would be the money that retailers would make from actually selling the games.

Which one is more profit, $58.2 million, or $50 million?

In short, there is more money to be made from selling games digitally vs physically, which means more room to offer a lower price to consumers. Also consider the fact that if they offer the games cheaper, more people would buy them, and also more people
to purchase any additional downloadable content associated with the title.

100% agree 24. People who come on here and complain about the games that go on sale need to give there head a shake. I am sick of the whining and complaining. What is wrong with these people that they feel so hard done by....... reminds me of the drill
sergeant in Full Metal Jacket when he asks "WHAT IS YOUR MAJOR MALFUNCTION!"

 

While there is perhaps some merit in what you say, Microsoft is very heavily reliant on retail outlets to sell consoles to increase their user base. These same retailers are not likely to be too happy (maybe to the extent of boycotting the product) if they
realise that the only sale they'll make is the console itself as the purchaser will then buy games digitally because they are significantly cheaper.

For this reason alone, Microsoft is effectively duty bound to give the retailers a fair shake by not significantly reducing the price of digital download until the game has been out for some time (at least 6 months as a ballpark figure).

The main reason people have currently gone digital is not so much for price as convenience. In the future, it is almost certain that the percentage of digital sales will increase massively. However, given the uproar created by those with poor (or even no)
internet when the original always online vision was announced (since withdrawn), those days seem to be some way away yet.

 

If Valve can do it, what makes you think that Microsoft, with the amount of money they have pouring in from Xbox Live Gold subscriptions, etc, cannot?

 

If digital games are too expensive for you.Find another hobby....Maybe golf.

I don't see why digital games should be cheaper.Steam is a 10 years old digital games retailer,not Microsoft or XBL and Microsoft still sells their games on disc too.

Microsoft didn't give any date when sales start for Forza 5 and Ryse.Just June.

By the way,there are mostly every week, sales on XBL.
