Why are will still having to reset our wireless connections with Xbox series x on power up?

It’s all over the forum that it’s isolated to the Xbox series x . Turn it on after being off . Not connected . Restart router restart Xbox and it works . It’s not an ISP Issue. Can we fix this already in 2025 .

Why are will still having to reset our wireless connections with Xbox series x on power up?

Hi there, and thank you for reaching out. My name is Aileen, and I am an Independent Advisor here to give you guidance.

I hear your frustration, and you’re absolutely right — this has been a persistent and annoying issue for some Xbox Series X users. When the console is powered off completely, it doesn’t always reconnect to Wi-Fi on startup. Many users have reported it across the forums, and while it doesn’t affect every unit, the ones that do experience it often face the same pattern: no connection until a restart of the router or console. And yes — it’s not your ISP.

    What’s going on?

This is believed to be related to how the Series X handles wireless network initialization during boot, especially under Energy Saver mode. When the system does a full cold start, the Wi-Fi module doesn’t always engage properly. Microsoft hasn’t officially acknowledged it as a widespread defect, but they’ve released improvements in past updates — though not a permanent fix yet.

Here’s what you can do instead: Switch to “Instant-On” Power Mode

This prevents the system from fully shutting down its networking components, and often avoids the issue altogether.

Press the Xbox button > Settings

Go to General > Power options

Choose Instant-On under "Sleep mode & startup"

Restart the console once after setting this

If you're already using Instant-On, try toggling it off and then back on.

You can also reset your wifi connection to the device by forgetting and reconnecting to Your Wi-Fi. Re-saving the credentials can reset the wireless handshake process.

Go to Settings > General > Network settings

    Choose your Wi-Fi > Forget

Reconnect and enter the password manually

    Restart the console to test

This is an optional action: Set a Manual IP Address

This won’t fix the root issue, but it’s helped others reduce the connection delay.

Go to Network > Advanced settings

Copy the current IP, Subnet, Gateway

Switch to Manual and re-enter them

    Save and restart

You’ve already done the right thing by speaking up. It’s not ideal that we’re still working around this in 2025, but hopefully Microsoft can address this more directly in a future update.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance. Looking forward to your response.

Xbox Series X Major Lag Issues

Hi there. I have tried almost every possible method of restarting, resetting and everything inbetween. Ports are forwarded, etc.

The thing is, I have my Xbox One and Series X set up beside each other. Due to the Series X’s problems, I can switch off my Series X, and switch on my Xbox One, and have no connection issues.

Both playing on the same wifi, both wireless connection, with all the same settings (except the Series X is running on 120fps).

Something is not right with the Series X and I believe it’s more than just needing to reset my MAC address...

Xbox controller working but Xbox not seeing the commands

    Hi

Thank you for posting to the Microsoft community.

I understand that you are experiencing an issue with your Xbox Series X where the controller is working, but the Xbox is not responding to the commands. I'm sorry to hear that you are facing this issue, but I'm here to help you resolve it.

Firstly, I would suggest you try resetting your Xbox Series X and your controller. To reset your Xbox Series X, press and hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds until it turns off. Then, unplug the power cable from the back of the console and wait for 10 seconds before plugging it back in. Turn on your console and check if the issue is resolved.

To reset your controller, press and hold the Xbox button on the controller for 10 seconds until it turns off. Then, press the Xbox button again to turn it back on. Once the controller is on, try to connect it to your Xbox Series X and check if the issue is resolved.

If the issue persists, I would suggest you try updating your Xbox Series X and your controller to the latest software version. To update your Xbox Series X, go to Settings > System > Updates & downloads > Console update. To update your controller, connect it to your Xbox Series X using a USB cable and go to Settings > Devices & accessories > Accessories > Xbox Wireless Controller > Device info > Firmware version. If there is an update available, follow the on-screen instructions to update your controller.

If the issue still persists, I would suggest you try connecting your controller to your Xbox Series X using a USB cable and check if it works. If it does, then the issue could be with the wireless connection between your controller and your Xbox Series X. In this case, I would suggest you try resetting your wireless connection by going to Settings > Devices & accessories > Accessories > Xbox Wireless Controller > Disconnect > Connect.

If none of the above steps work, I would suggest you contact Xbox support for further assistance. They will be able to provide you with more advanced troubleshooting steps and help you resolve the issue.

I hope this helps you resolve the issue with your Xbox Series X. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

We look forward to your response.

    Truly Yours,

    Fatima

    Cannot connect to Network

The first thing I would try is powering off your console and router for about 30 seconds, power the router up first and once you have an internet connection power up the Xbox. Test your network connection again.

If you still have the issue then I would try resetting the network settings on your Xbox. Note that when you do this you will probably need the password/security key to connect to your router.

My Xbox series X is no longer connecting to my internet.

The Xbox factory reset on the series X still did not work, it wouldn’t connect to the network. I connected my original Xbox one (2014) back up to my monitor and I was able to play online games just fine on there, same Microsoft account and internet that the series X was not connecting too. My Xbox series x keeps saying it has a hardware issue when trying to connect the internet, I’m pretty sure this proves it’s a physical problem with the hardware on my Xbox. I still have warranty on it and can return it and trade in for a new one. I’ll try doing this and seeing if the trade in one works.
