    Why are system updates not done in the back ground or while system is off?


    I had some free time this morning so I thought I’d hop on and play so no mans sky on my Xbox one......nope I get to sit instead and watch the system do an update why is this not done in the back ground this is ridiculous. My system is setup to update games
    while off why not the system too. Its not like I get a choice to not update. So now I am still watching this system update as my free time ticks down......well done MS.

    CANT DOWNLOAD GAME UPDATE!

    When it disconnects, do you shut off or restart the system? I ask because typically, you will be temporarily disconnected from LIVE while the update is downloaded and installed, and then automatically signed back in when it is done. If you shut off or restart
    the system because you are disonnected by the update, the update does not have the chance to get downloaded.

    Issues downloading or installing a system update

    How to Roll Back an Update:

    If you're seeing issues with/after an update that none of the above steps will resolve, you may want to try rolling back the update. To do so:

    • Head into Settings -> System -> Storage
    • Then hover over the storage device that has the update on it and press LB, RB, X, LB, RB, X
    • Read and agree to the notification

    After this is done, your console will restart. You can then sign back in to Live or run the connection test to prompt for the update again.

    Note! If you are rolling back and update in order to then update via USB or CD (per solution 5 on this page:

    Xbox Updates | Xbox 360 Updates    ), please make sure to disconnect from your local network and update the console while in offline mode.

    Why are system updates not done in the back ground or while system is off?

    If you are storing your games on an external drive make sure the power to the drive is not turned off while in instant on mode.

    Hey you need to check that your Xbox one is in instant on mode, Energy-saving Mode | Instant-On Mode | Xbox One Power Modes then it should automatically update the system, games and apps obviously you can get unlucky depending
    on when an update is pushed out and when the Xbox last checked, but for the most part I rarely see an updating screen.

    If you set your XBox power settings to Instant On, and then uncheck the option to turn off storage while the console is off, I believe it will download updates and install them while you are away. Give it a shot and if you still run into an issue please

    Hey you need to check that your Xbox one is in instant on mode, https://support.xbox.com/xbox-one/console/learn-about-power-modes then it should automatically update the system, games and apps obviously you can get unlucky depending
    on when an update is pushed out and when the Xbox last checked, but for the most part I rarely see an updating screen.

    Hi Mattdtb84,

    It's recommended to clear the system cache after a beta updates

    This can be done by holding the power button for 10 seconds while the system is on. The system will then turn off. When you hit the button again, it will start and display the green start-up screen.
