Why Are Some Older Gamers So Grumpy?

I don't know tbh, I think it is a good excuse to relieve some stress..... You know, shout and scream at the tv..... Instead of at your family

I was born around the time ET on the Atari was blowing peoples minds.

I would not say I'm grumpy at all towards anyone on forums, but I really can't stand seeing "kids" who flat out rip on a game franchise or console, that is just childish.

I do, however, get grumpy when I don't have enough time to play games or have a tough time figuring out what I want to play.

 

38 this year I think and I hope I don't come across as grumpy. Guess we just grew up at a time when life was pretty tough? I know a lot of you younger folk have a lot more opportunities these days then us old timers ever had.

 

I'm so grumpy I'm going to start a post asking people why they are grumpy.

 

I usually have the chat volume turned all the way down unless I'm in a party with friends. So I don't really encounter grumpy people very often. I did however come across
this cat once. It was pretty ridiculous....

@OP... That's an easy one.... Their wives are probably nagging them about how much they are spending on games.... Not at all autobiographical..... Errr we'll maybe a little.....

 

I am 36 and love gaming, just going through a lull moment again though, as an older gamer I miss some of the classics that a lot of younger gamers have never seen or tried, but where I live the only game that the young seem to want to play is COD and they
even have fights over who is better, gaming to me has become too serious, way to serious. I know people play for competition but can we also play for fun, you win somebody in a game these days and death threats ensue. Where's the gaming love these days.

On a serious note though, age elitism is stupid... just because someone has played longer, or more, doesn't make their experience any more worthy.

Personally, I'd prefer to listen to grumbling swears and general discontent of grumpy older gamers than the screaming high pitched drivel of a teenchild. It's never as black and white as that, but yea.

I'm in my 40s, but I wouldn't say that I'm grumpy. If anything, I think a lot of younger gamers are grumpy. Perhaps "grumpy" is the wrong word, but whiny and entitled, sure. Some of the larger gaming forums, NeoGAF for instance, are full of teenage and 20-something
gamers whining and complaining. It reminds me of that quote from that US comedian who said something like "everything is awesome, but nobody is happy".

I don't judge people by their age though. I judge them by what they do and say. If a person's only argument is "I'm older so I'm right", then it shows how weak their argument really is!

 

I'm 36 so I suppose you could call me an "older" gamer. I don't get grumpy with young people per se, I get grumpy with disrespectful people. People who are present only for the purpose of annoying others, or just generally being tards.

Young or older, doesn't make much of a difference really, there are tards in both groups and mature/respectful folks in both as well. However, the tards tend to drown out the others I find and it just makes people either leave or dive into an argument that
nobody can win.

I'm also discouraged by the folks who have to drop the f-bomb at least once in every sentance. This is normally the younger folks, but not always.

The mic started out as a great tool, (And still can be) but has degraded into something that I feel has hurt the gaming industry overall.
