Why are my friends not popping up under the 'friends' list on Minecraft Bedrock?

I've tried restarting my laptop, resetting my network, making sure multiplayer + joining clubs + cross play is allowed then running an SFC scan and restarting my laptop as per the instructions of a so called X-Box gamer. The first time my friend sent me an invite an envolope icon appeared on the home page of my bedrock page, I clicked it, and nothing happened. I didn't join the server but according to my friends it says I've joined the realm and am just sitting on the Minecraft home page. What is happening??? I bought a realms subscription for Bedrock about a year ago to play with a couple of friends on my own realm and cancelled it a month after, I looked it up and found out I don't need the subscription to be invited and play on a friend's realm so why is this happening????

1. Make sure that you and your friends are using the same version of Minecraft Bedrock. If one of you is using an outdated version, it may cause issues with joining each other's realms.

2. Check your Xbox Live privacy settings. If your privacy settings are set to "Blocked" or "Adult defaults," it may prevent you from seeing your friends on your friends list.

3. Try adding your friends using their Xbox Live gamertags instead of their Minecraft usernames. This may help you see them on your friends list.

There is no error code, we simply cannot see each other under the friends tab when we are playing minecraft. I am on PC and they are on swtich, both bedrock editions. They are on my friends list but they are listed as offline even when they are playing

Are you all playing on the same version of Minecraft? Not the edition (Bedrock), but all clients are updated to v1.19.10? And have you tried deleting and adding your kids to your friend list and removing and adding you on their friend list too?
