Why are MS servers so slow?

I have a 200+ mbps internet connection for a reason. And its not so you guys can throttle me to 100mbps with constant drops to 25

on a 1gbps connection to my Win10 PC and my One X. speedtests show the speed I should be getting, close to or over 200 yet both of them get terrible download speeds

Downloading from steam gets me 180+ mbps... so its nothing to do with my ISP or my modem/router

Any input is appreciated, ive tried the DNS trick changing the secondary to 8844 and changing mac address but did nothing

    :)

  2. NAT Question

Titanfall runs on MS Servers for xbox one - there are no xbo one as host so no NAT Problems will be there. All games running on MS Servers don´t have Problems with NAT.

Forza5 and Titanfall runs on MS Servers.

I will only buy games who runs on MS Servers because of terrible connection like in Call of Duty or FIFA and so on.

I don´t know why they don´t use the MS Servers - it´s so much better for gaming.

  3. Will any of the new games for the Xbox One have dedicated servers?

Activision is using MS servers not their own thats why PS4 COD Ghosts will not have dedicated servers confirmed by Activision .. MS is putting 300,000 dedicated servers online for XBOXONE.

Why are MS servers so slow?

Hey Kimboslicer, Thanks for posting on the forums today.

That is odd for sure, I understand completely any frustrations this can cause.

Do you connect wireless or connected directly with a cable?

Also what type of troubleshooting (if any) have you done on your Xbox?

Based on your testing it does seem something may be acting up within the console's operating system potentially, or something in it's settings may be slowing the speeds down as the data is coming in.

One thing that comes to mind that may help is opening up
    alternate network ports
in your router that the Xbox uses to connect to the servers.

The Xbox and PC are both connected with a cable, hence the 1gbps.

I have done a hard reset on the Xbox.

All ports mentioned there are already opened and of course the IP in each rule is correct for the xbox [Mod Removed-Personal Info-IP Address]

    NAT is open

Speed test on the One X sees 199mbps but downloading anything its at 100 with constant drops to 20

PC downloads fine on Steam as is speedtest.net, but when trying to download from the MS store its slow

    Hey Kimboslicer,

I've done a bit research on the matter and did not find any concrete answers whether or not MS servers cap download speeds. However I did find a discussion thread on

    Reddit
    talking about this matter.

Some people have similar issues but for the most part people who have fast internet are getting those speeds on download. Sometimes it will throttle to prevent any impact to the operating system use, but it does not seem to dip as low as you mention it's
doing on your devices. Some people even say they get up to 500 mbps download speeds on their Xbox One X.

I would suggest at least for your Xbox to maybe try a
    Soft Factory Reset
    to restore the operating system.

Ultimately if this issue is unique to your network's connectivity to MS servers, then I suggest you report the problem to Microsoft through the

    Xbox Insider Hub
app to bring it to their attention.

    Hope this helps.

Theres quite a number of threads about it on reddit.

Did a factory reset, and It actually made it worse.

lmao this is just sad. I paid 700$ for a product that should work as intended. I couldnt even play it the day i bought it because the DL was so terrible.

BTW that IP is a local address that nobody could do anything with anyways lol

Why are MS servers so slow?

    Hi

Your ISP might be the issue, they can throttle network traffic from different content delivery networks over their system. I've seen users with gigabit connections downloading at over 800Mbs so the system is capable.

Hey there. Another thing is that your xbox might be connected to 2.4ghz instead of 5ghz. 5ghz usually has a higher download and upload speed so that might be the issue you are facing. You can usually find details on this by typing your router number into
    the URL.

  10. Can your ethernet cable handle 1gbps? A faulty cable could be the reason.

Its not my ISP, the xboxs own speed test shows 220+mbps, yet when downloading i get less than 50% of that.

Ethernet cable is a new cat5e that came with the modem.

    What's your network topology like?

I'm going to assume you have your devices hard wired to the router? Or do you have them going to a switch then to the router? If so, is it a single switch or are you daisy chained? Is your router a modem/router combo, or something else?

For example on my home network my XBox One is connected like this:

    Xbox One X -> 24 Port Switch -> Router -> Modem -> Internets

You mentioned a cat5e cable - is that from the modem to the router? Or something else?

I do know that Xbox will throttle your download/upload speed when you're playing a game - especially an online game. This is intentional so you don't lag in the game. For me to see full speed (200 mbit connection) I need to stay on the "My Games and Apps"
    tab. Isn't the speed shown in my games/apps MBytes/Sec instead of MBits/Sec? (300 MBits/Sec == 37.5 MBytes/Sec)

The speed test you run goes over the standard Internet. The content delivery network is a separate thing. This is what your ISP may be throttling.
