Why are games on the Xbox store so overpriced?

This isn't a rant. It's just an observation that perhaps Microsoft may actually notice.

I'd prefer to buy my digital games from the Xbox one store, but when they continue to charge original MSRP for old games it just makes me rarely ever look there when I'm buying a game. Sure they have the occasional deal, but when you can buy many of the
digital codes from companies like Amazon for up to half price, why would anyone ever buy from the store? It's not even a convenience price, I can get the code just as quickly using Amazon. Examples, Doom is still $59.99 ($30 at Amazon). Borderlands the handsome
collection is $59.99, I purchased this from the Xbox store months ago for $23, so why is it back to full price? Fallout 4 $59.99, $39.99 at amazon. And so many more examples.

People buying games are savvy shoppers, please stop thinking we are chumps. Maybe you guys just don't need the money?

I find it hard to believe that whoever is in charge of digital game pricing isn't taking the time to ensure they are competitive with other major game retailers.

Xbox Game Prices vs Playstation (and digital vs physical)

What? For real? Why the heck do they make the Xbox One games more expensive? Why doesn't MS tell them, "hey these games are cheaper elsewhere and will make us lose customers?"

I decided to go full digital but honestly I think it was a huge mistake. The same games on the Playstation store and physical copies at stores are way cheaper.

Still doesn't really answer my question on why digital games are more expensive than physical materials. It makes no sense. MS should take control of their store.

 

Are there game trailers on the Xbox store?

So I just got an Xbox One again (been about a year and a half since I last had one), and right away I notice something is missing. Whenever I go to a game page in the store, there are no trailers or screenshots available, just a bunch of random user created
junk on the game hub. On PS4, I click on a game, and a trailer starts playing, and usually has a couple more videos and screenshots available. Now, I'm pretty sure Xbox had the same thing, but now, there is nothing. I am still trying to figure out how to navigate
this dumpster fire of a UI "upgrade" but I can't for the life of me find any type of media that is NOT user generated for ANY game I have clicked on in the store. Surely this can't be something that was removed?

 

Prices on the Xbox Store are mostly put in place by the publishers which is why they're left at MSRP for so long.

As Smwutches stated, the prices are set by the publishers. So you would want to address your concerns with the individual publishers of the games you wish to purchase.

Also, keep an eye on majornelson.com and the
Xbox Wire for any upcoming Sales and Promotions so you're able to take advantage of those deals.

 

One of the issues that digital gaming has is that the publishers do not want to undercut or compete with their natural customers, brick and mortar stores.

Microsoft have said on a couple of occasions that they will look into it but it's out of their hands.
