Why are games more EXPENSIVE after Xbox One launch? $69.99 vs $59.99

As most of you in North America know a standard Xbox game costs approx. $59.99 + tax. This has been the standard price point for the entire Xbox 360 lifecycle.

If you haven't noticed yet, some new games coming out on Xbox One & even Xbox 360 are coming out with higher price points.

    Example EBGames

    Destiny $69.99

    Batman $69.99

    Elder Scrolls $69.99

    Day Light $69.99

    Middle Earth $69.99

    Mad Max $69.99

    Transformers $69.99

    The Crew $69.99

    SpiderMan 2 $69.99

South Park Stick of Truth $64.99

    Dark Souls 2 $64.99

    Thief $64.99

Why have we deviated from the price point that Xbox gamers have come to expect & accept?

Why are you forcing gamers to now think twice before buying a new game.

New games will fail because people just won't buy them, as they don't have any loyalty to those games yet.

Haven't Xbox One owners paid enough to cover the R&D costs of the forced unnecessary Kinect 2.0? And nickle & diming with DLC.

    :)

  2. Just Dance 2018

If I buy just dance 2018 at best but they charge $59.99.

If I buy the download version it costs $69.99.

Why it's the download version more expensive than the physical disc version?

    New Xbox One game prices?

As far as I can tell, in the USA, the MSRP for new Xbox One games is generally $59.99. Where are you paying $69.99?

You need to price match, that's maybe EB Games prices, but check around. Even Microsoft store has lower prices, Best Buy too.

The question is why has EBGames deviated. It appears to me from Amazon that the MSRP of those games (I checked several but not all) is the standard $59.99. I'm not sure why folks still shop EBGames...

Best Buy has raised their prices as well that match EB Games. Other retailers are following.

I am not interest in Digital downloads, as I don't want to deal with download games and prefer a physical copy for my book shelf.

Amazon seems to be a good option, but I prefer brick and mortar store for day 1 purchases.

We also need to consider the current low value of our Dollar ($) Which in turn is raising the price on all tangible goods.

It's always the same when a new console launches.360 games were much more expensive at launch but the price dropped after a while,it'll probably be the same for the xbox one.

  10. I don't know where your getting this pricing from but in the U.S. everyone of those games is 59.99 at ebgames and gamestop.

Current pricing of games aside. Gamers as a whole are going to need to accept some price increases in the long run when it comes to video games. Game developers tend to lose money on some of the games being put out nowadays because the revenue just doesn't
end up surpassing the development cost.

And this isn't just with bad games, take the latest Tomb Raider for example. Great game, but just didn't turn a profit. So if we want to continue to see great games, we may have to put aside the "standard" pricing and start accepting a more sliding scale
system based on a games quality, content, and development time. Some games are already doing this, such as Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zero, and Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare. To name a couple.

Just to point out that Tomb Raider wasn't a success. It didn't make money because it didn't sell well. Also I'm still seeing 59.99 price.

Sivien, I didn't say it was a success. I said it was a great game, I also went on to say that it didn't turn a profit. In fact it was part of the entire point I was trying to make.

Were at a point now where games vary widely enough in the quality, content, and development time. That a standard price tag just doesn't make sense anymore. Why pay $60 for a game that delivers a fraction of the content that another does.

I'm a firm believer that we should get what we are paying for. I'd rather see a higher price tag on a game, than having the industry be forced to shift into microtransactions just so they can turn a profit on a game after it has shipped.

Actually Tomb Raider has posted a profit, it just took a lot longer than Square Enix thought as they had unrealistic launch sales expectations to begin with. That was more a case of SE throwing their Western developers under the bus to hide the failures
of their Japanese studios, specifically the Final Fantasy series.
