Why are digital prices high?

Profit plain and simple. All the games are at RRP.

Australia tax on digital prices!

Target/Kmart are where I got those prices, EB are rip offs.

Still your prices are cheaper then digital how/ why should that be?

^^No one ever takes bulk purchasing into account when thinking why digital and physical are the same price.

 

Most are cheaper DD then disc (Canada). Sniper Elite is $3 cheaper then disc, Metro is $3 cheaper then disc.. ( Costco.ca). Even though there is no trade value in DD, it is so easy and convenient! This is the way to go for me!

 

This is not plain and simple.

You need leverage to lower the prices. Still does not change the fact that the Publisher and Developers have the leverage to pull their game from Xbox Lives Store. And force Xbox users to leave their home and but it elsewhere or surf for it.

In this console generation, a lot people want all digital. And Publishers know it.

 

To better explain my post above.

Retail stores have a "Recommended" price that they can adjust. This is not the case for the Xbox store. The Xbox store does not have the pull that a huge retail store or huge online retail store. If they want to drop the price they have to pay out of pocket
to cover the price drop. Publishers give them the price and the publisher feels that the price is listed to below they can have Xbox pull the product.

Digital Prices also help make up for case cost's, and sleeves and shipping. You must understand, this is a business. And this business (which is our hobby, get away, passion) needs to profit. Personally, I have no issue with digital prices. Though I do
believe that they should be say 10$ cheaper, I understand that the business I care about needs to make a profit.

To many good studios are closing, because the lack of sales.

 

From the way I see it, because there is only one place where you can get digital content/purchases on Xbox, and that's Xbox Live Marketplace. If there was another legit online service where you could order stuff their and use on Xbox Live, it would create
-competition- for buying stuff over Xbox Live. Otherwise you can buy the physical side of things from authorized Xbox retailers who are know to sell games and stuff below the RRP. Sometimes it's the opposite sometimes stuff on Xbox Live is cheaper than what
your nearest retailers may be selling it. Xbox Live do have sales but they usually stuff which I'm not very interested in.

 

I live in the US, so I can't comment on prices for the UK marketplace, but Destiny was priced at $59.99 and $89.99 for the 2 versions. That seemed to be in-line with what retailers are charging.

 

Eggnogga is right for the U.S. - digital prices are the same as the retail prices. What he doesn't mention however, is how prices for the physical games will usually be reduced much sooner than the digital versions.

 

I understand the price difference. I just wish i could even get 20 bucks back to forfeit the rights to the Digital copy of games I bought as Xbox marketplace credit. heck I would settle for 15 bucks to be honest, just give me the option to get something
back if I have last interest in playing the game anymore. I understand that if I ever felt like playing it again I would have to buy it again at whatever the cost was.

 

I won't be going digital until prices drop. For not having a physical copy of the game, for me, it's not worth paying the same price for something I can't trade in. ...pure and simple.

 

IMO, trade-ins aren't worth diddly and selling them online is too much of a hassle.

I agree 100% with DocHolliday7. I will buy the physical copy so I know that if I am ever bored of the game, I can trade it in and make some money back. Cant do that with a digital copy. So not only are you paying extra for digital copies, you will never
make any of that back. The physical copy you pay less, and can still make money later. I also don't mind the exercise of getting off the couch and putting a disc in and out of my console.

 

I have only purchased digital when it is a digital title only, like Killer Instinct or when it is GwW or DwD on a game I really enjoyed and traded in already. Like Remember Me. J loved the game but traded it in. Then bought it again for 3.49 when it
came back up. Glad I did.

They don't know how to "just say no"!
