Why are all Next Gen Games Unfinished?

@Lei its hard to say since I am not in the right place, which would be an employee of a games development company.

When I talk about games haven't always been broke I wasn't stopping at last gen, intellivision, Spectrums, Commadors, atari, amiga the list goes on.

Games are far more complex now, but everything is build on an engine, so once programmers had true freedom, now programmers have to get engines to bend the way they want, and I guess thats not easy, and actually finding a problem and fixing it must be very
complicated, but there are methods in place which make it easier for developers to know where the errors are, which is shown partly in destiny where the animals come in.

I would suggest, to do really complated things take time, and the development times haven't expanded enough to allow for this, or/and developers are not on the same page when developing and not upto the same standards and ideas when programming.

Its very hard to put your finger on it, but there are thousands of reasons, but IMO very few excusses.

I wouldn't expect a new car to come out the way games are, if you thing are car is to simple, lets say a new jet engine, neither are simple and take years to develop, and both need to be right.

I understand that games are now more complex than ever, but that only means more time is required for quality control / de-bugging sessions.

I will not pretend to understand how a developer works, but this is what I think should happend to minimize the problems that a game could have.

If a game took 2 years to make, then the developers should test this new game for six months BEFORE it is released to the public.

So what happens after 6 months and there are still bugs? In an Evolve article they said they hard a working rough setup after 3 months, so they have been working an testing since, even their alpha had issues.

testing with people in the office isn't whats needed tested by millions worldwide is.

On PC some games are released at alpha and beta stages, normally at reduced prices, that allows for true level testing and keeps customer expectations at a certain level.

Rushed to market. They know gamers will buy them on a whem, and then wait 6 months or more for them to be patched.

Its up to gamers themselves to demand better by voting with their dollars. If they dont then gamers shouldnt expect better.

If a game is still seriously buggy after 6 months of rigorous testing, it means that the game isn't ready to be released yet.

I know that games won't be 100% bug / glitch free when they're released to the public and it would be pointless for me to define what degree of bugginess / glitchyness is acceptable as I wouldn't even know how to explain it.

Sorry for sounding like a broken record, but the games that were released for the Original Xbox and Xbox 360 are A LOT LESS buggy / glitchy than the games for the current generation.

Sadly, this is the truth. Consumer happiness isn't their primary concern, it's them making their money, a few other things, THEN it's consumer happiness.

 

Do you really think that even in 6 months a few people could test all the possible combinations that are possible in todays video games/software. Should I say millions, might be a little low.

 

Measure twice and cut once I say. Obviously certain outcomes can't be predicted and a few bugs will slip the net with how big and detailed the games are these days.

If I were to guess, I would say that the developers are relying too much on " Patch Updates " instead of making a sincere effort to deliver a finished game when it is released to the public "

I am going to wait 30 days after a game is released to see what kind of issues that game has; no more day one purchases from me from now on.

I don't want to get stuck with a full priced game ($66.00 for me) and have to wait at least a month for the required patch updates for me to have fun with it.
