Why are all Next Gen Games Unfinished?

But as good as old games were randver, they still had problems. I honestly that we have all become a very impatient bunch.

The thing about next gen resolutions is they are better than last gen resolutions and thats all that should matter. I never once saw an article about resolution last gen so why is it so important now? Besides if these next gen consoles are 4K capable, we
should start crying about games not being 4K.

do I really have to explain why next gen will be different than this gen again? next gen console are basically PCs, a developer can make a pc game with good graphics and reletively easily port it to console. this gen you couldn't really do that. since all
the games you listed ( except killzone) are coming to PC, the next gen versions of the games will look as good or almost as good as on pc.

 

Oh and my favourite were Janes combat sims. I still love WW2 fighters. Even better with mods. And just the othe day I hit silent hunter 4! Still think 3 was better but it doesn't like windows 8. Sure if I persevered I could get it to work though!

I just picked up Red Baron, B17 Flying Fortress, Silent Service 1 and 2, Silent Hunter 2 on GoG ( currently on sale) for a grand total of about 15 bucks....so we'll see if it's nostalgia that makes me believe these weren't buggy or if they actually weren't......just
need to find my flight stick now.

 

Haha I think you first challenge will be getting them to run on a new system! It will be into the .ini files for you mate

 

GoG takes care of all that for me. All I need to worry about is mods but I'll start with vanilla.

Funny thing is your going to compare games that were less than 100mb installs compared to games that are 40 - 50gb. Of course there will be more problems now. The games are way more complex.

 

But the ability to debug them has also improved. It's like cars....my 65 Mustang I need to find problems by the process of elimination, my 2012 truck gets hooked to a computer and they tell me what the problem is in about 30 seconds.

 

Your mustang would've been a lot easier to fix though! Simpler design. Besides that, we aren't talking about cars here!

 

Look I'm not defending broken games. I just think that people are a lot less patient these days. There have always been broken games. They just usuay get forgotten. The biggest problem these days is that games are sooooo hyped up, people's expectations are
massive. That's why I'm not holding my breath Over the division.

 

There hasn't always been broken games, spetrum games, C64 games and 486 games like doom weren't broke.

Games might be a bigger file size but generally development times are bigger, budgets are bigger, coding teams are bigger, and profits are much much greater, as is the retail price.

While I understand some issues, like the conflict with destiny between party chat and new in game chat, its a new console new coding etc etc.

There are other things that shouldn't be there, like the massive issue with MP match making.

Most of the things are fairly regular stuff, but most developers (and publishers) are about profits not about games, the new COD is a prime example, still using lag comp and going for the much cheaper P2P over dedicated servers, and paying the price with
massive lag.

At present I am giving some leeway due to a new gen of console, but its wearing thin, and I am not buying games at launch until things improve.

The reason that the games today are released " unfinished " is because the developers are now using " patch updates " to get a game out on the due date. It is very rare for an Xbox One game to be delayed on the confirmed release date because of " patch
updates ".

Before the advent of " Patch Updates ", the games had to be 100% working when they got released. This is the reason that games got delayed on the Original Xbox and Xbox 360.

There are countless games which have been delay this year, patched updates allow for a longer development time, they can develop right upto release date, thats another reason to be able to get it right.

However IMO games shouldn't rely on release day patches, thats just asking for trouble.

 

Weird, all my games have been working well for me including the games that you mentioned.

And it's funny how you say "all" next gen games are unfinished. I guess you haven't played Dragon Age Inquisition yet.
