Why am I getting the “your Microsoft account is already in use with another account...

Do I have to create a new MS account to play multiplayer Minecraft? I only have one MS account and one PSN ID. Why can't I link them together? Why do I have to create new accounts for this one specific purpose? Does that mean I would have to change accounts back again every time I want to play something else besides Minecraft? That is terrible design.

Usually that message appears when you had an account linked to your PSN account.
And right now unlink a Microsoft account from a PSN account is not possible.

"WARNING Once a Microsoft account has been linked to a PlayStation:registered: account, neither the Microsoft account nor the PlayStation:tm: Network account can be associated with a different account. 

If you choose to unlink accounts, then purchases will be returned to the account which made the purchase. Even after unlinking, Microsoft and PlayStation:registered: accounts can only be re-linked to the original account."

This can be a bit odd, but try changing your Microsoft and PSN passwords and try linking the accounts again

You can reach Mojang support to see if something can be done from their side

I'm having a similar problem but I just created this Microsoft account and I can't log into it either and I can't find and answer anywhere

Having the exact same problem... Did you ever find the solution? I assumed there would be a option in the settings on our microsoft account to unlink whatever's "connected", but it seems like there isn't....

Thank you for the feedback and suggestions, I did reset both passwords and try again but it is still coming up with the same message and I am absolutely sure I have never linked another psn as I have only ever had one. I am however thankful for your response and will definitely be reaching out to Mojang and thank you for the link to do so. One thing that would help is knowing what account it is linked too if I can do that since I definitely can’t unlink it as you said. Thank you for the help ❤️‍🩹
