First, let me say that you won't find a bigger MS 'fan boy' than me. So much so that I have a Windows Phone, a Windows Tablet and a Windows 8.1 laptop. Even my wife and kids use Windows devices exclusively.

That being said, I also think that having to pay a subscription fee to MS to use services that are free on every other platform is ridiculous. MS markets XBOX as a complete home entertainment system, not just a video game console. By making people pay to
surf the web, use free service such as Crackle, or paid services such as Netflix completely negates their marketing.

MS has recently drastically lowered the licensing fee for the Windows Phone OS to grow market share and are getting pressure to make it free to OEMs. By charging this extra fee to use third party services on Xbox is cutting into their console sales and should
    be changed.

It will never be free. It has been argued against for years. Hundreds of people have posted in the wish list and feedback forum against it and it still hasn't changed. I agree apps should be access able regardless of subscription but it will never happen.

  3. Oh yes, its like looking in the Yellow Pages with the amount of gamers that have posted this issue regarding Netflix. However, I think Gold is still a great Value for money. But if you don't want to pay, you could always use your Tablet or TV to watch Netflix
    etc...

Value? Where exactly? I'm not so sure you understand the meaning of the word. When a company charges you to access the exact same feature that you can likely access on a dozen other devices, there is no "value" there.

Those of us who actually do value their money though either have, or will move onto other options just as you've said. At the moment I have very little interest in 360 multiplayer, and so I don't pay for LIVE anymore. Personally, these days my 360's are
only used for a Media Center extender since that's really all they're good for. So you're right, people can choose other options, and they do. Some people are perfectly fine with paying a company to do absolutely nothing, while the rest of us actually value
    our money.

Lestat573 i see what you're saying and I very much agree, there's 1 reason people find value in it: games. The online multiplayer costs microsoft money, so in order to satisfy me, microsoft must lose money. I can agree with charging me for server use.

*What I absolutely hate is that you're literally throwing money away if you have a free means*... Xbox one COMES with an hdmi to plug into a tv. You literally only have to take it out of your xbox and plug it into your laptop and you'll get most of xbox
one's features free. Or if you're too lazy u can watch it on your monitor with no issues.

Why microsoft actually thinks I'm unwilling to do something so trivial to watch it on my tv? I'll never know. I hope one day microsoft changes their policy.

This news dissappoints me. First they gave in on the Kinet and Used game policies.. Now they are going to remove the paywall.

    .

The problem was not that MS was charging for access. The problem was that all of the other software and hardware manufacturers allowed free access. Why does progress have to be stalled just to cater to this extreme entitlement
    mentality.

Well, this thread was practically dead 2 months ago until the post just before yours.

I thought you liked "change" there, Newb? But yes, the problem obviously wasn't the fact that MS was charging people to access something that they really had nothing to do with. CLEARLY the problem is that every other company in the world wasn't greedy enough
to try and milk more money out of people for something that they weren't enhancing or in any way making better for the consumer. Don't you just hate it how they ruined it for the companies that wanted to make a profit out of nothing?

Entitlement has nothing to do with anything. The only "entitlement" issue is here was MS thinking they were "entitled" to charge to access apps that they have nothing to do with.

It is good to see that they've finally come to their senses. Even if some people were dumb enough to keep on happily paying for nothing, most people realize how ridiculous it is and continuing the paywall model as it has been is bad business.

I'm disappointed they will be offering the usage of apps to "Silver" members. I'm going to miss these threads that would pop up every week. Why am I forced to pay for a service to use a service I am paying for? :( They were always a good read.

It's funny how the guy who resurrected a 2 month old thread said he just wanted the argument to go away.... yet he is the one who brought it back to say that.

If it wasn't for "whiners" like me, you'd have a brick in your livingroom every time you lost your internet connection, not an xbox.
What a load of crap. lol. Do you really think they restructured the entire console, because of some Internet whiners on the forums?! Give me a break. The pre-order numbers weren't up to where MS was wanting them to be. They figured out what it was
about the console people didn't agree with and then they made the change. If people were pre-ordering en masse do you think they would've made any changes?? Hell to the no.

I didn't imply I'm being forced at gunpoint to purchase said service, as your condescending first question implies. I'm being forced to pay for a service in order to use another service I get elsewhere free. I don't understand how you can click the title
and not be able to understand the incredibly brief statement.

I am voting with my wallet: not paying for a subscription.
