Why am I forced to pay for a service to use a service I am paying for?

Features such as HBOGO and Amazon prime instant video I can get easily with my [Microsoft] pc and my ipad free.

These service only require me to pay for the internet--which I do, and for the service use (amazon prime hbo), and a softwae to use it (an Xbox one I paid for) but Xbox one decides to force me to make an additional subscription based purchase.

Take netflix for instance. Can be displayed with ps4 or xbox one. And yet, ps4 doesnt require me to pay for its use.

As far as brand loyalty I'm offended that you'd be more interested in squeezing extra money out of me rather than simply satisfying me at no cost to you.

I feel cheated and ripped off. And don't give me this "it's only a couple bucks." I've paid enough for something I don't need to pay for everywhere else. You know how I'm going to watch these services free on my TV? I'm going to plug my hdmi in my pc and
connect it to the tv and boom, an unnecesary, yet free means of watching Amazon instant video on my tv.

The real issue I have is why microsoft requires me to waste my time like this. Because I'm not wasting my money on something I should and could be getting free.

Competitors are willing to indulge consumers like this, why isn't Microsoft?

    :)

So Should MS reach out and thank Finest Squad?

I am outraged at the fact that we pay $60 a year to xbox and $50 to sony to keep their services running. yet for the past two months their services are down for days at a time. im not getting no reimbursement for the lost time. dont we pay these people to give us the best online experiences. i dont feel safe gaming anymore. why do we pay you sony and microsoft seriously. both of your services are a joke

MS does give reimbursement. I got reimbursed for 3 or 4 days shortly after TItanfalls Release when Xbox live was only really down for a few hours

If you read my post, you'd see I don't use a subscription. In fact, I'm pretty sure you've missed the entire point of my thread.

That's one of the many reasons why I've started with a PS4 this gen. There's no excuse for locking these things behind a paywall. Sadly though, this has been discussed to death and this thread will only end up with the rabid Xbox fanboys trying to defend
Xbox and saying "If you don't like it, go away!" or "Well, they can do whatever they want with their system". Which is true, but consumers can also choose to reject this system. Considering what the sales figures look like so far this gen, it's good to see
that people are finally realizing that they're being ripped off and rejecting this type of anti-consumer model. I suppose some people are happy to pay for absolutely nothing, while the rest of us have this thing called common sense.

You should also be directing your question toward the companies themselves. Why do they let their services be locked behind a paywall in order to make Microsoft's product (the Gold sub) look better.

Would Microsoft really through Netflix and Amazon off the 360 or One if they insisted they were available to Silvers as well.

Thank god the BBC had a back-bone.

  9. Yeah I was pretty happy with the BBC for doing that too. They certainly didn't back down. Got to say though, gold membership is worth the cost if you look at everything you have access to.

Hmm, I'd like to know who is the person(s) forcing you to do these things?

MS makes these things only usable for Gold members. You've acknowledged this. So, you have options, yes? Utilize those options if you don't agree with the Xbox Live subscription. Vote with your wallet.

I didn't imply I'm being forced at gunpoint to purchase said service, as your condescending first question implies. I'm being forced to pay for a service in order to use another service I get elsewhere free. I don't understand how you can click the title
and not be able to understand the incredibly brief statement.

I am voting with my wallet: not paying for a subscription.

  12. I know I already said this sirSafir but the cost of the membership vs what you get in return is well worth giving a second thought to. It is your choice of course, but I wouldn't shut down the idea completely Why am I forced to pay for a service to use a service I am paying for? :)

I'm being forced to pay for a service in order to use another service I get elsewhere free.

So you have alternative means of using those services but thought it would be best to come here and whine about it because you can't use those services on Xbox 360 without paying to access them? Got it.

The real issue I have is why microsoft requires me to waste my time like this. Because I'm not wasting my money on something I should and could be getting free.

Microsoft is a BUSINESS. They have structured a business model that has been lucrative in the last 10 years so why would they change it just for you because you don't think a Gold Sub is worth the money to access the services
you want? If you don't want to pay then use those other alternative methods of using those services you can get for free elsewhere...

    [/quote]

I have a laptop and a bluray player that I can use to access Netflix, Hulu Youtube, etc. on yet I still pay for an XBL Gold Sub because I feel it is worth MY money considering all the features you get with it. And I am by no means
a rich person either, I live pay check to pay check like millions of others but I still feel my money is being well spent here.

Microsoft are clearly way too stubborn to change that which is why I went with PS4 this generation. The 360 was an amazing experience but near the end of its lifespan, its competitors were out doing it in both games and features. I don't have any subscription
for PS4 and I can use all the apps and features for free besides online play which I don't really need.

I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with this if it weren't for the apps that have commercials along with their programming or the apps that require a cable provider in order to use (honestly, if I had cable, would I really use the app to watch certain
programs in the first place). But because this isn't the case, it is one of the several factors pushing me towards the PS4. The way it is now, I feel I am being charged 3rd party access fee's to content I can get elsewhere without those 3rd party fee's and
on those apps with commercials it feels like I am paying a yearly fee to watch them (commercials).
