why am i denied from editing my own thread?

The edit time is there for pretty much the reason Egg pointed out. It forces people to stand behind what they say and do on here and prevents people from stirring the pot and then editing their post making others look like the perpetrators.

If anyone makes a grammar mistake or formatting breaks on a guide or any other minor fix you can usually PM a mod and we'll be happy to help. Of course, that doesn't mean we're to become personal editing assistants or that we'll change the entire meaning
and delivery of a post but minor things I don't mind helping with. For most people who quickly check over their posts and think about it it's not an issue but it's still possible to happen. I even mess them up sometimes so in that case just let one of
us know.

Edit notes are needed by us and stupidly there's no way for us to turn them off for you guys if we need them on. Feel free to mash buttons or tell a funny story there.

On the subject of the forums it's no secret they have some major issues. Can't go into details other than to say what's been said - It's not being ignored and we use and have the same problems you all do. That includes moderators, MVPs and Admins. In
fact I had this post typed out this far and lost it and had to start over. I know it seems like nothing is done but there have been some minor improvements that have taken place which took time. Some of it is visible to you guys and if you look at what
people were complaining about a year ago the complaints have moved to other things. It's definitely better than in the past but not quite what it was prior to 2011 and we know that too. Have faith In that feedback site.

We're all pretty open so feel free to contact me/us using any of the hundreds of ways possible. We all work together and include all of you in that circle. All you have to do is respectfully give us a shout.

What people were complaining about a year ago still happens on the forum with far too much regularity for such a big software company as Microsoft. Just last week the forum was a nightmare of "oops we've lost your page" errors.

On other sites seeing an error page comes as a surprise. Here it elicits the response of "oh! The forums are going wrong again.

It's not that the forum is getting better and that is why people have stopped complaining. Rather they've just accepted that nothing happens and it is futile to complain about it.

As you mentioned it is near four years since this forum software started to be used. What's been 'fixed' in that time? Paragraphing in the quick reply box is all that springs to mind.

The feedback site is a great idea but it isn't suitable for all forum feedback. Plus I'll remain sceptical that Microsoft use it for any forum ideas, after all we know the attention they paid to the feedback section of the forum before it was closed.

How long are we meant to wait for the forum to get better. Isn't four years enough?

Sorry for the rant. It isn't directed at you Scratch, just simple frustration at the lack of any real progress.

 

I know. What people complained about 4 years ago still pops up. Telligent was part of the old platform since 2005. I'm not denying any of that and believe me when I say I bang a loud drum when it comes to the issues because I run into them every day.

I make sure threads like this are seen and I've got an extensive list of problems both fixed and recurring and come heck or high water I'm going to help make sure we don't go another 4 years. I don't make decisions or call the shots but my brain is picked
a lot as well as the other seasoned mods and these threads. Steinekin is a hungry brain picking vulture

The forums have gone through some staffing changes and reorganization in the last year and priorities and resources are now, I believe, in a good place to make stuff happen. Believe me. People are losing sleep over it.

Please remain skeptical but open minded. I don't blame anyone For frustration and I know it's not directed at me or anyone in particular. Totally cool by me. It does get old but we're not giving up either.

Thanks to to all of you who've stuck it out and know that it's appreciated. My dream is to have the forums back to their former glory.

 

Forgive me but it is hard to maintain hope for improvement when same "people are listening. Things will get better" statements have been said since the forum changed to this software.

Are Telligent not part of this new software? Why does their logo come up as the favicon when the forum glitches out?

This forum software seems to be based on that used for gamesforwindows.com way back when, you can see traces of it sometimes when the forum glitches out, and it wasn't very good back then.

A couple of the things stated back at the beginning were these. The nested layout often makes people perform too many clicks, this is known as 'perceived friction', which gives of the impression of having to do more to achieve the same results. For example
hovering on the UK drop down menu and then clicking on UK General Xbox Discussion does not take me to that board but rather to a page with a link to that board.

Also why are the regional boards now hidden behind the global site location. Before it was a simple matter to drop into the Australian boards, for example, and join in a discussion there. The forum seemed a lot friendlier back then because people weren't
actively stopped from talking to each other.

Just two of the things that were pointed out back then and four years later have had nothing done about them. The former especially shouldn't be a hard job to remedy.

Perhaps it is just me but this forum software really doesn't seem fit for purpose.

 

You're forgiven. Telligent has been and is the platform since 2005 not just since 2011. That's all I was saying. They've changed their name since then though.

 

I know those websites are different but i don't understand , on one side there is Xbox.com forums which are in the state we know. (not users friendly)

And on the other side Halo waypoint or Lionhead/Fable forums which are more in today' standard.

Would be nice to have something as good as those websites.

Microsoft IP got "classy" forums".

Microsoft Xbox/XBL got "outdated" forums

 

I'll remain very Skeptical. This sort of thing could be transformed within a couple of weeks not years. Heck my OS X gets more updates than here and the X1 Dash gets monthly updates! If this place was truely important to MS/Xbox it would be fixed and even
have its own snappable app on Xboxone. You know like the reddit one Majornelson posed for photos to use in its achievments!!

 

I'll never give up on this place, but you can bet that I'm 100% completely over giving any kind of feedback on improvements as I've seen plenty of well thought out threads over the years which have essentially turned to dust.

I know others feel the same because the last 'let's post ideas about a better forum thread' died within a day and I'm nearly positive it was because most of us have seen it so many times before, the boy has cried wolf far too many times and I'm done listening.

I will however continuing posting here and not think about the state of the overall forum. At this point Half Life 3 seems more likely than an awesome official Xbox forums, haha.

 

I'm a bit tardy to the party on this thread but Scratch hit most of what I would say. We all use the same forums and run into the same frustrating issues. I have

facedesked many a time when a go through the trouble to writing out a good post only to have it eaten. Or when all I get is "uh-ohs". Like Scratch and I'm sure most others, I want the forums to be as popular as the "good old days". Fixing certain issues
doesn't happen overnight.

Regardless of the problems I still like coming here and reading what my fellow gamers are chatting about.

 

In the old days of the previous forum , spelling , and grammer were a big thing .

Used by gangs of forum regs , when losing an argument , as a last resort to derail a thread and have it locked .

Ah , the old days , the dude with the blue font , I hated him .

The dude with the red font , infuriating

The dude with the green font , boring .

Seriously though I think they were going to announce Half-Life 3 exclusively on the forums. They're just waiting for the front page to load.

. . . . . *disclaimer to anyone reading and ready to pounce - I'm joking, I know the logistics surrounding the companies and realize that even in a perfect world with a perfect forum they'd highly unlikely announce it here and it can't and wouldn't be exclusive
to Xbox. You can get mad but it's better for the soul to laugh about it so don't try to type a wall of text explaining company relationships and marketing buzz words.

 

I rarely edit. The last two times I tried, this site said that a moderator would review it before it was posted. It pays to proof read and know what you're posting especially when the world can see it, before you post it. Most of us don't have administration
privileges on this site and act that we should because of this one feature. A funny reason you could put in if reason for edit is required on this site "I made a booboo".
