Why am I being nickle & dimed for changing my gamertag?

I primarily play on PC, so I'm quite confused as to why something as simple as changing my account name is monetized. I've made this account at least about a decade ago when I was a young mindless kid, unaware that my decision would be lasting. Since then
I've been using my father's xbox account because of my mistake.

So tell me, what's the justification for this?

^^You're not really getting "nickle and dimed" since you don't have to buy them. I'm perfectly content with the original camos. I have not and probably will not purchase any of the camos.

Ever since the Microsoft added the ability to change a gamertag on an account many, many years ago, it has cost money.

This is to prevent users from being constantly changing names and tying up available tags.

Even a user that receives a forced name change, has to pay to change their tag from what it was forcibly changed to.

Would you rather it be like so many other services offer - no way to change a tag other than to create a completely new account and abandon the old account?

 

This is a non-issue that can be immediately solved by doing something as simple as limiting how many times you can change your account ID within a certain time-frame.

Why do I have to pick one over the other? What's preventing Microsoft from implementing a legitimately better system to be put into place that "so many other services" also have done?

And when you mean "so many other services" that don't allow you to change account IDs, do you mean the literal only one? Because even companies such as Nintendo allow you to use an interchangeable nickname to place over your account ID while online. I hope
you can bring up more points to better explain this, because I'm really sorry to say that these excuses are not good.
