Who Wants The Guide Button Back???

Actually if the following video is possible the guide will be a fantastic feature, the video has 5 wanted things for the Xbox One, the guide is the last thing mentioned, but all are good, and I would welcome them all,

@Burst. It had absolutely nothing to do with nostalgia.

This is exactly why I said to the op that it's pointless asking on here. Some of you guy's will constantly defend the X1 no matter what. You fail to see that some of us want to make the system better, you blindly dismiss any idea's or criticism because you
class it as a negative. People on here are quick to point the finger at trolls for ruining the forum.....but it's not just the trolls at all. There is this over zealous protectiveness from some, it's this attitude that has a big hand in causing argument's
and derailing threads. It's patronising, arrogant, and obnoxious.

And don't worry, this little rant isn't just because of this thread, I see this in around 80% of thread's every day.

 

That is something that I've noticed on the forum as well, where
some even resort to trolling in order to stop a discussion that isn't pure praise.

As to the guide menu, I'm surprised that Burst up above thinks that leaving a game to view the messages is less immersion breaking than having a temporary overlay over it.

That's like me having to alt-tab out of a game in order to read a message on a website rather that pressing shift-tab to pull up the Steam overlay.

 

My opinions regarding ET's video:

Backgrounds - I don't like the layout of the concept for the background options; I think it should be none, then the colors, then specific backgrounds. Also, the previous concept video that had to do with themes was much better IMO. Still,
it's always cool when people make videos like this to give us a visual of what could happen.

Moving and Resizing Tiles - Looking at some of the examples, I think it can make the Home screen too cluttered. I also think it adds too much complication to the console - consoles are meant to be simple and easy to use. It also makes it
too similar to Windows 8, which isn't a good thing IMO. For those gamers who actually use gesture controls, having smaller tiles may actually make them harder to select. Finally, if you can pin things to the Home screen, it makes the Pins screen absolutely
redundant. If I had to choose between the concept in the video and what we have now, I'd choose what we have now. I will say though that we need the "move" function from the video for the Pins screen we have now (and only there).

Battery Indicator Notification - I'm on board with this simple and effective idea 100%. Make it happen, MS!

Friends and Party Activity on Home screen - Again, as before, this creates a cluttered and overly complicated Home screen. It is also redundant because all of that (and more) is accessed from the Friends tile, which is already on the Home
screen (the big tall tile on the left).

Guide Menu - In this case, it's not a menu; it's a whole other UI that STILL takes you out of the game (at least the current setup still has the game in a giant tile that makes it easy to return to). Yet again, the concept looks cluttered
to me. And to top it off, it's STILL 3 screens (instead of pins, home, and store you get settings, apps, and social)! Personally, I think the Xbox 360's UI was better - it at least had a section for actually accessing games...

 

I don't have any need to 'drum something up to suit an argument'... how I feel about something is how I feel about it. I even stated in my post that I tend to notice things like that and many others may not.

Now I'm going to put this a little differently, but for those of you whom apparently need to brush up on reading comprehension, I'd like to suggest you read it slowly.

I never said that achievement pop ups, friends coming online, etc. etc. was not immersion breaking... did I? Would someone mind pointing that out if I did? I stated that it was more of a feeling that my main focus was
shifted away from the game and towards the current activity on the X1. I then explained that with the guide popping up on the 360, it felt
less like my main focus was shifted away from the game and more like the
current activity was only a temporary distraction. I even stated in a subsequent post that it didn't have to be like the original guide... nostalgia doesn't have a d4mned thing to do with it.

Geez, I even used almost the exact same wording as one of the sentences I used in that post. Don't know what I'm going to have to do if this explanation isn't clear enough... get some crayons I guess...

 

I don't feel as if anyone is trolling my forum post. People have been honest and mature, except for like two or three people, and they say they don't want the guide button back, that is fine. Yes I would love to see more support for it, but I just want to
see what the hardcore community thinks. Also people have given me some alternatives to try out, which has been helpful.

And to Blue Illusion, I thought your post was pretty clear. I do agree its like a PC in terms of popping you back out to the home menu. Its a bit annoying and cluttered for what I want to do, which is usually send messages or go the friends list. MS wanted
it to be that way to keep similar to Windows 8. I don't mind the UI being similar to Windows 8, but I want it to be quicker. I guess my best bet is trying out pins.

 

@Goat I didn't class it as a negative. I classed it as redundant. Just like you have a right to want it back I have a right to say its redundant. Everything you want is immediately and quickly available to you if you use the X1 optimally. I even pointed
out how many different ways you can access that info.

@Blue You can feel the way you do about it and that perfectly fine. I'm not out to change your perspective in the least. As I also pointed out I notice the immersion breaking as well. I instead listed ALL of it under immersion breaking. No minor distraction
vs focus shifting stuff. No return of the guide button will change that for me. Thinking of different ways to bring less on to my screen is what I'd rather get behind. Not more stuff to popup on it.

Same here. It's not really a huge deal, just a something I noticed, but it does make a difference to me.

I'm not sure I'm that confident the UI will change dramatically, but anything's possible I guess. I still look forward to what's in store and I think it has a lot of possibilities.
