Who Wants The Guide Button Back???

I'm not a fan of voice commands. I'm usually either on the phone or in a chat party, so using a voice command would actually be an inconvenience to me. What I do usually is I keep smart glass open next to me and I communicate that way. Smart glass needs
more development. It has the potential to become a great X1 companion.

 

Smart glass certainly isn't the answer for me, it kind of defeats the object and just adds to the "farting around".

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying smart glass is a bad idea..... Just a bad alternative to a guide menu.

Also, I have had a lot of reliability issue's with smart glass, I'm not sure if that's down to My WP8 or smart glass itself though tbh.

 

IMO, a guide menu like on the Xbox 360 would be rather redundant and unnecessary considering the setup we have now on the Xbox One, especially with Kinect voice commands and SmartGlass. I've recently tested using certain similar functions on both the Xbox
One and the Xbox 360 and in almost every case, the Xbox One was faster.

That being said, Blue's description of leaving the game full-screen (360) with the guide instead of putting it into a smaller window (One) makes a lot of sense.

 

I wouldn't mind seeing it come back but it isn't a biggy for me. I don't think that the July Update brought Voice Commands to NZ locale yet so still have to use the controller to navigate through the Dashboard unless I temporary change my locale to Australia
then I can use voice commands. I've tried this once before and it worked. I have to admit tho the Xbox Guide menu on 360 is genius it's a Quick menu where you can get to the most important thing like messages parties achievements quickly especially with the
controller.

With Xbox 1 for me it's like having to wait a little longer for a Windows 8 styled OS to load parts of the Dashboard. It's not only your internet speed, but also the way M makes the Dashboard, which affects how fast you navigate through the Dashboard. And
since Xbox 1 has better hardware.

 

Didn't think to use the smartglass app might give it a try next time I need to respond to a message etc. Talk about set in the old ways

 

I use smart glass more on the go and when I'm not currently playing my Xbox. It is really handy though! Not sure why people keeping talking about the guide being slow considering my idea is that it would be implemented on the Xbox One, therefore much faster.
And most of you still don't seem to consider not everyone has Kinect or is willing to buy into it. Keep that in mind. I should try pins; perhaps I will become more accustomed that way. Thanks for the suggestions!

Yes but GG you use voice command's, So I'm sure you do think it would be redundant.

 

But even without the voice commands, Goat, I think it would still be redundant because it's already so fast to get to places on the UI itself - for example once it's set to your Pins, it's simply a matter of pressing the Guide button and then pressing left
bumper once to get to your Pins and accessing whatever you want and/or need. It literally takes 3-5 seconds (depending on how many pins you actually have).

 

I know what you are saying GG, but it's still more messing around than a simple guide. One button and you have everything on a neat menu.

I think over time, as more X1's sell without kinect, this feature will be request a lot more often. Like I said before, It's not about taking one feature away just to add a different feature, It's about giving everyone who spent money on an X1 the best possible
experience.

You see it on the feedback site all the time. You get someone ask for something that will make their experience better because they don't have or use kinect, Straight away you have a loaf of idiots saying "No, don't add this, they should use kinect" or "go
buy kinect" or "you don't deserve that feature if you don't have kinect". Who the hell do these people think they are, It's personal preference if someone want's to use a separate peripheral. Everybody who has spent hard earned cash on the X1 deserves the
best experience possible..... Kinect or no kinect.

 

I might actually be happy if they just flipped the display when I use the 'Home' button while playing a game. ie rather than minimizing the game screen back down to the tile on the Home screen, perhaps it could simply bring up a smaller version of the Home
screen in the same way the 360 guide popped up. I don't even think navigation after that point would have to change, but it would [to me] just feel more natural.

I know it's mainly a sensory thing that may not bother some, but I notice things like that. If I were going to design a UI (not that I'm a designer) in which I wanted the user to get the feeling of being 'pulled out' of an activity and be presented with
a main menu where they could shift their focus to other activities, I'd do it exactly like our current UI. However, if I were going to design a UI in which I wanted the user to have the feeling of 'remaining in game' while they temporarily checked on something
else or responded to a message, I'd do it much like... if not just like... the Guide.

 

I think the current way is faster and not guide blades. But if must. It should be a opion.

 

Here's an idea - how about if instead of a guide so-to-speak, it just brought up a list of your pins instead? That way you can kind of pseudo-program it.

 

How can the guide make you feel more like your not being taken out of the game??? The moment you chose certain things it took you right out of your game. Lol

 

The Guide button would be redundant. Game immersion is broken the moment something pops up on your screen not related to the game. Even something as small as an achievement or _______ is online notice (for this reason mine are turned off). Just because your
game is still full screen on 360 doesn't make it any less so. To me it sounds like something drummed up to suit an argument.

I have my messages pinned to the first option and friends right under it. Two B presses from either app brings me right back to the game screen and all much faster than 360. All without using Kinect too... Even though its much faster with it. Not to mention
recently used apps like friends or messages show right under the game box on the home screen.

As it stands you have four ways (five if its snappable) to access stuff. Do we really need a fifth/sixth way just for nostalgia's sake?
