Who Says Hacking Doesn't Pay?

While reading the current issue of OXM I noticed a small article on page 17 contained in the sidebar titled "XBox security weakness found by 5 yr old". Upon reading it I learned that some kid found a way to sign in as his father. Now I am not too clear
about about that "sign in as his father" part but what it meant the father realized that his account had broken into by his son. So then he notifies MS which promptly rewards the boy with 4 games XBL Gold and $50! I thought hackers were punished!

The person who wrote that clearly doesn't know the difference between hacking & a ddos attack.

Again,Xbox live has NEVER EVER been hacked

Some hackers make a VERY good living by finding exploits in security systems....

This is an OLD topic, a young man reported an exploit and was rewarded. Simple as that.

If something negative had happened, this conversation would be very different.

 

Most of IT security employees are hackers. To be able to prevent people to attack your softwares, website, etc... you have to know how they think and how they are going to do it.

 

This was in the news months ago, good kid, good of microsoft giving him pressies

 

Now if the father filed a report on his son for getting into his account well i doubt it would hold up anyway haha but that wouldnt make the wife happy
