  1. Who Designed This!?!

    Hey people,

I would like to have a discussion or vent around a particular game mechanic, level design or something that's just rub you wrong when gaming, haha.

Now there's been plenty of times I've asked myself, who specifically designed or thought this was a good idea and where can I find their address to punch them in the face, haha, but over the years I've actually forgotten a lot of them.

My most recent example is Sunset Overdrives 'ball traversal' challenge which is new with the robot factory DLC, there's 3 different ball traversals and normally they would increase in difficulty, well I'm stuck on traversal challenge 1 when I've completed
2 and 3, it's so *** hard I can't fathom why it's the first challenge! Relatively minor nuisance, but I've had much worse!

If you will, share your frustration with me?

    :)

  2. Who designed these broken missions???

Thanks, yea I wish I would have know of the merryweather thing. We waited at the heliport for a long time. Just seems like if they suggest a helicopter, they should make one available. Also, since single player is all about planning, I wish the bigger
missions would offer more information that you can use to plan your approach. Most missions just give a very generic objective and you have to fail the first attempt just to see what you are up against.

  3. Who designed these broken missions???

I have been trying to give a pass on some of the issues I have been running into, but cant believe how broken the missions we tried to play tonight were. Me and a friend wanted to play a bunch of missions tonight........we spent all night on three broken
missions and finally got so mad we quit. The first was Lesters "high priority case" but we couldnt find a helicopter, so we just started the mission expecting to get one then. We figured a mission saying you should use a helicopter would give us one. Well,
we spent an hour driving to every airport, heliport, hospital, and police station and found no aircraft at all. What idiot designs a mission that wants you to use a helicopter, but doesnt guarrantee they will spawn. The nonhelicopter way up the building
is a huge ladder withno cover and guys picking you off. We gave up.

Next was Martins "Death from above" yep, need a helicopter or plane, but none avaiable.45 minutes of looking and quit after we tried the on foot approach and died.

Next was Lesters "Last chopper out of LS" urg.....well at least this one you steal a helicopter so it must be there. After a couple fails, I finally stole the helicopter and landed it at the marker. Then we had to kill some more bad guys, but had one
red dot left that it required us to kill. But the last red dot was off in the middle of the city no where near the mission origin or destination. We drove over there searching for the guy but the red dot was on top of maze tower and we realized the helicopter
that usually chased us didnt show. It was stuck on top of the tower. We drive back to the destination to get the helicopter and it is gone. Of course there is no helicopter anywhere onthe map. Didntmatter anyway, couldnt shoot from the helicopter anyway
    due to another glitch.

So 3 hours, 3 broken missions and a lot of aggravation. So, Rockstar, I used to think you were cool, but for all your talent in building this world, no one in your business is smart enough to see such obvious common sense things in missions.

PS, for people like me that are trying to play the game right by robbing stores, playing missions once, getting stuck with low value gang attack crates, and looking for armored trucks that I never find, but I cant get ahead. Now people that find loopholes,
farm 1 lap races that they take turns winning, and such are level 100s with tons of money.

Need to ask my doctor if he can prescribe me some pills if I am going to continue to play this rediculously broken game. I apologize to all for this rant. Needed to vent my frustration over game in a form of therapy.

I hated that stupid ball. There have been times where I thought what you did in different games. I just can't think at the moment. I am under serious pressure at work and I hopped on here to take a break for 5 mins.

I'll come back when I think about it.

There's the Capcom Baddy-intro - I hate cutscenes whether cinematic or in-game that plant the protagonists on the spot while they either...A: allow themselves to be completed surrounded while not firing their gunsies
or waving their fisties. Or B: Allow some giant something to get in position without so much as a fart in its direction.

Who still thinks this is okay design?

Staying with Capcom-like design. The boss/guardian that isn't - "Rawr I'm a big spider-monster thing coming to eat you rawr! I'm impervious to your precious few rockets and your priceless magnum ammo...
rawrrrr! Okay now I'm in the designated scripted place that you knew nothing about, because we didn't tell you, and can now take damage."

Which genius thinks this is okay in modern games?

Assassin's Creed chases with schoolyard invincibility rules -
"Guy needs to be caught, GO!" So you go and you parkour over a building, jump off a flag pole, pirouette and land on the dudes head blade-first!
"Failed dude! Wow, so you're dumb, you have to let him get to the field over yonder before you can kill or interrogate him."

    Grr.

The NFS "Hey look at this!" - Hot Pursuit had the worst of this, but pretty much ever entry has something like it. So you hit a car with a spike strip? Here's a close-up of that before this hairpin corner! Zoom, slow-mo, and here's control
of your car back as you're about to hit a wall! A cop car, look, look at it in this awesome cutscene just as you were about to pass the car in front while going 200 MPH. Here's control back, no idea where that car went man, I guess you weren't paying
    attention.

    What is that?

NFS, Midnight Club, Project Gotham... many-a-racing games F.U onscreen text - So you've just entered District 9, regardless of what you're doing we're going to put text right in the middle of the screen, right on the horizon point most gamers
look at while racing... now try and judge the gap between those cars with "District 9" right in your face.

Dragon Age: Origins, Dead Space 3-type buy-me's - A quest-giver whose quest is behind a paywall. Wow did that make me want to spend my money, or did it anger me to the point that I didn't play the DA:O dlc
until the physical GOTY was in the bargain bin at a rock-bottom price! When businesses do that, "Pay what you think it's worth." - thing, they invariably make more money. Or the, "If you're interested in X thing, no pressure, let
me know and I'll give you more information." People will curiously ask what the deal is.

But constantly being reminded that you can buy more crap, whether it be in a store clerk riding your back
like a devil-thing from devilsville, or a menu in a game peeing on the aesthetic and immersion, or even a British National Treasure in John Cleese trying to choke you on content in a Happy Place
[Fable III]... it's super-annoying, and poor design.

    I have more but I'm
    tl;dr -ing as usual. {=D

Currently going through Darksiders and wow does it have some horrible requirements.

The game is just too short to give you enough souls (credits) to buy all upgrades, so you have no choice but to add an additional 10 hours of grinding in order to buy everything, as well as stupid requirements like ride the horse for 150 miles. over 2 hours
that took... watched Prometheus whilst tying the joypad at an angle.

Continuing with the game for now. But not looking forward to grinding for souls. Silly devs.

  7. ^What difficulty are you on? I remember there was a tiny bit of grinding for me, but I started on the hardest difficulty so not sure if I earned more xp or just had to retry a number of areas which cut down the grinding time.

@Argon - Haha I totally understand the camera angle thing in NFS, there's been many games that snap to a slow mo camera in the middle of the action which just messes you up in the end.

One that I forgot was Thief, everyone would have the same concern that a master thief cannot jump over a 600x800 floor tile, haha. Also Ninja Gaiden 3 RE's ninja trials that have some of the old bosses from the previous games in them, they upped the difficulty
of those bosses to near broken levels, Alexei was on of the easier bosses and in RE he's untouchable!

GTAV load screens. Forget asking the wofe to make me a sandwich, I can breed the animals myself, kill them and slice them up in the time it takes for GTA to load.

Destiny writers, developers, spouses, anyone who knows someone who use to work for Bungie needs a talking to. Whether its the lack of story or the anemic amount of content, I need to know how they thought it was cool to release the game the way they did.

Ubisoft upper management needs a good kick in the teeth too. Whats with the *** towers in their games? Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs and even The Crew has towers. Its ridiculous that they can't think of something different.

Activision needs to give the trio of COD devs a bit of breathing room. Make a new engine, develop some new stories or maybe try Third Person. Its very stale now.

Destiny sparrows without guns. I'm sorry, but it simply is not plausible that the grimy Fallen's Pikes have guns, but somehow Earth hasn't managed to figure out how to bolt a dang blaster onto the side of a Sparrow. It's actually worse than that - apparently
    some time between
    the early 20th century
and the time of The Traveler, we forgot how to mount guns to personal vehicles!

Also the inability to directly trade with other Guardians. Let's create this "MMO" and then remove one of the most basic ways for people in any community to interact. I get that they wanted to control the economy a bit and that grinding is The One True Path
to Loot, but it just breaks the game. If you make a world where dozens or hundreds of players are running around, ya gotta model "This thing, let me give it to you" somehow.

OMG I did ball traversal on Sunset Overdrive last night. It was so frustrating it took me about 10 tries to get it. I had to put the controller down for a few to cool off and try again and got it.

Ori and the Blind Forest gave me a similar frustration in the Ginso Tree. You can't make a single mistake going up that tree with the water at your heels. I got better with each try but seriously who was the evil genius that designed that lol

I remember thinking the thread title about X-Men on the MegaDrive (Genesis to you US folk), where you had to reset the computer.

How annoyed did I get on that level until in frustration I hit the reset button on the console and discovered that was how you moved onto the next level.

    Ingeniously evil design.

  14. Hahaha, I love them all, I'm actually getting a good laugh out of some people gripes!

@Bowski - Did you get gold? I guess I should have qualified that when I said 'completed' I meant getting the gold, I have the silver and I've even gone back to try again and I'm nearly under the assumption it's impossible without blind luck or the bounces
    going 100% your way.

I guess another frustration of mine is how different platforms all use a different button systems, like the 3DS still uses X, A, B and Y, but they're all in a different spot to the Xbox. Why can't they just be universal! Haha.

Destiny - rusting cars which look so 1990s. Any game with platforming /jumping which requires the reflexes of a 20 year old hype up on a 6 pack of Jolt cola and 2 pounds of sugar. Far Cry 4 radio towers do this occasionally. Any game with an in game manual
which is complex and with little font, I either have get within 3 feet of the tv screen or find a faq which has the button layouts. I am 51 and nearly blind.

Watch Dogs and GTA V, car chases where I have chase a person across town before I can take them out.

We can do change the laws of Physics. Far Cry 4 towers. What do you mean I lose power in my buzzer near radio towers. Look a falling down radio tower but my grappling hook can not find purchase.
